What’s Wrong with a Full-Day of
School?
FACT
1. Not a sudden idea
Minister Muhadjir had reportedly raised his idea of an eight-
hour system almost a year ago, less than a month after taking
over from the Education and Culture Minister Anies Baswedan in a
cabinet reshuffle.

The minister only indicated the possibility of implementing the

new policy in stages, taking into account schools’ level of
preparedness. Currently, he claimed, 9,800 schools are ready to
implement the new program, while 215,000 schools are not
ready.
2.Netizens’ reaction

“Rather than improving our education, the ‘full-day school’

even makes students stress and have bad mood.”
“I disagree with the Minister. Sir, we have pity in parents at
home, who have to work for a living. If schools are willing
to provide students with pocket money, then it is ok.”
“Mr. President Jokowi, you had appointed a wrong minister,
hadn’t you?”(reported by the media)

Some people openly mentioned that Minister Muhadjir

was less aware of or even did not want to care much about
the condition of schools in the country as extensively
reported by the media.
3.Extreme journey
In some areas, students reportedly have to walk several
kilometers to get to their schools. Other area has roads that are in
poor condition. Even in the most-developed island of Java, some
students reportedly have to cross a river, by walking or by boat,
just to reach their school.

TO SUMMARIZE
Full-day school is school from morning
till afternoon. The full-day school
learning system likes new things. This
system has been applied in the boarding
school. With this system, students are
expected to have high productivity so
they are able to minimize negative things
that can be do by children as a result of
their association of their environment.
