THE CRAZY NECROPHILE
 WHO WAS TED BUNDY?

■ Theodore Robert Cowell was born in

Burlington, Vermont, on November
24, 1946. Thed Bundy did not live a
normal life, as he always lived in the
midst of violence. His father was an
American air force veteran who
abandoned his mother before he was
born. Louise, the boy’s mother, led
him to believe that she was her older
sister and that her maternal
grandparents were actually her
parents.
 ACADEMIC BACKGROUND

■ Ted Bundy enrolled at the University

of Puget Sound and began to study
psychology and was always known as
an excellent student. In 1967 he fell
in love and began a relationship with
Stephanie Brooks. Two years later,
his girlfriend graduated and ended
her relationship with Bundy.

 FIRST CRIMES AND MURDERS

■ In 1974, still in college, Ted Bundy

entered the room of Joni Lenz who
was 18, a student who was assaulted
in the room of his residence. Bundy
hit her with a blunt instrument and
raped her with the leg of the bed.

irreversible neurological damage

 JUDGMENTS AND ESCAPES
■ In 1976, the first of the various trials
to which Ted Bundy would be
subjected took place. In this case he
was tried for the kidnapping of
Daronch, resulting in a 15-year
prison sentence.
■ He escaped again in 1977, in this case
managing to flee to Chicago and
adopting a different identity. During
this escape he killed again, this time
attacking three young people in a
university fraternity (Chi Omega), of
which one managed to survive. He also
abducted and killed Kimberly Leach, a
12-year-old girl. He was finally arrested
at a Florida hotel, and after being
arrested for a second time, he would be
tried on 25 June 1979 for murder.
 FINAL SENTENCE AND DEATH

■ Bundy, who served as a lawyer for

himself during the trial, succeeded in
postponing the sentence on three
occasions. In a desperate attempt to
save his life, he confessed where he
had hidden the bodies of several of
his victims, but nothing spared him
from being electrocuted on 24
January 1989.
