FLOORING
◦ Laminate Flooring: Laminate flooring that has glued-in seams is actually not a bad
choice for a bathroom, as the glue prevents water from getting into the cracks
between floorboards. Some laminate, however, simply locks into place; you don’t
want this in your bathroom. Water can seep into the seams, causing the under layer
of the floor to blister and warp.
◦ • Engineered Wood: Engineered wood is better than laminate, because its base is
made of sturdier plywood, which resists more water. You probably would not want
to install engineered wood in a frequently used bathroom with a shower, but for a
guest powder room or half-bath it’s not a bad choice.
◦ • Linoleum Tile: Linoleum is an oil-based material, so it will repel water much
better than hardwood or laminate. However, linoleum tile does have seams where
moisture can seep in and cause warping or separation.
◦ • Sheet Linoleum: No seam means you will get the benefits of water-resistant
linoleum without the problems of individual tiles.
◦ • Vinyl Tile: Simple to install and made from waterproof plastic, vinyl tile is a Sheet linoleum

good choice for bathrooms. You do, however, still run into some potential
problems because of the seams between tiles and there is really no way to seal Vinyl tile
them against moisture.
◦ • Ceramic or Stone Tile: Ceramic or stone tiles are an excellent choice for
showers, pools and bathtubs. They are durable, water-resistant and look great.
Grout seals the seams from moisture; some tiles and grout are available that are Ceramic tile

designed to repel water.

◦ • Sheet Vinyl: This is perhaps the best choice for a heavily used bathroom. You
get all the durability of vinyl flooring without those troublesome seam issues.
Sheet vinyl
◦ • Concrete: If you are reading this and picturing a bathroom floor that looks a
lot like your driveway, hold that thought. Today, concrete flooring is an
increasingly popular choice, because it’s durable, can be sealed against water
and is available in a variety of colours and tints. Concrete Wood Marble

FALSE CEILING
A false ceiling is a secondary ceiling placed under the normal one. It is mostly designed to hide the
piping, ducting, wires and other extra fixtures of the inner roof. Moreover, it is installed for thermal
insulation and also acts as a good sound proof system. In a moisture ridden room like the bathroom,
false ceilings keep your important wires from moisture and give your room a smart appearance.
◦ Gypsum board: It is commonly installed as it is lightweight, flexible, and can easily resist fire. It is
hard and can be utilized for various purposes.
◦ Metal suspended ceilings :Metal suspended ceilings add a rich taste to your bathroom. They neatly
conceal ducts and wirings. They can be installed easily and are pretty durable. They are not only cost
effective but also give a clean appearance.
◦ Aluminium ceiling designs are fireproof, moisture-proof, mold proof and smoke-proof, which makes
them a good solution for new bathroom design or home staging.
◦ Plaster of Paris (POP):POP, the most commonly used material can be used to design your bathroom
ceiling artistically. It can be applied to a wooden base and then fixed for drop or false ceiling. It is
weightless and economical. Its appearance gives a neat finish and can be painted as preferred.
◦ Plywood sheets: For installing plywood sheets panels of plywood are nailed together. It is used in
cold and humid regions as it is moisture resistant.
PIPEWORK
A fitting is used in pipe plumbing systems to connect straight pipe or tubing sections, to adapt to
different sizes or shapes, and for other purposes, such as regulating or measuring fluid flow.
◦ MATERIALS
◦ CAST IRON PIPING Traditionally used and time tested, incompatible with other
◦ materials of piping, Prone to Rusting
◦ G.I. Piping (Cheap and widespread, Recyclability, Corrosion Prone)
◦ Steel, Brass(Traditional & Expensive, Heat Resistant, Recyclability)
◦ Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) (Corrosion resistant/ Smooth Surface but environmental
◦ hazards as it is a thermoplastic)
◦ Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) (Non Reactive and best for carrying potable
◦ water)
COPPER PIPING
&
PEX PLUMBING PIPE

Copper pipes are probably the most traditional plumbing pipe used due to their extensive
duration and reliability. They provide superior corrosion resistance, great material to be used
for hot and cold water and it can be managed easily.
Sizes of Copper Pipes
Copper pipe is available in a number of sizes commonly:
◦ 8 and 10 mm - for use microbore central heating systems
◦ 12 and 15 mm - generally for connections to individual taps, appliances etc.
◦ 22, 28 and 35 mm - generally for long runs where use of 15 mm piping would cause
excessive pressure drop.
PEX Plumbing Pipe
PEX or Cross-linked Polyethylene is a plastic material used as a water supply piping systems
that provides several advantages over copper, iron, lead, or PVC plumbing pipes. PEX pipes
as excellent properties such as superior heat resistance, long term durability and is an
excellent plumbing solution for fire-sprinkler systems. PEX pipe ranges in sizes from ¼ inch
to 4 inches, but 1/2-inch, 3/4-inch, and 1-inch are the most commonly used pipe sizes.
TRAPS
◦ Traps are defined as fittings at the end of soil pipes of waste pipes to prevent
foul gases coming out of the soil pipe/ waste pipe. Traps are an integral part of
a modern sanitary system, being designed to retain a small quantity of the
waste water from the discharge of fitting to which they are attached as a barrier
to prevent foul air entering the building Traps should be self-cleaning, that is to
say , they should be designed so that their walls are scoured by the discharging
water. One of the advantages of modern traps constructed of plastic materials is
the ease with which they may be dismantled for cleaning. Good Traps should
have following Qualities:
◦ • Should provide enough water seal ( around 50 mm) with large surface area.
◦ • Interiors surface should be smooth so that the flow is not obstructed which
enables self cleansing.
◦ • An assess door should be provided for cleaning the trap.
◦ • It should be made of non- adsorbent materials.
VENTS
Sewer gas stinks and can make people sick. Maybe not tough guys like you and I, but other people. So
plumbing traps prevent the sewer gas from getting up into the inhabited space. The trap keeps that sewer
gas down in the pipes where the sewer flows. The details below illustrate:
