As a Health Educator:
1. Assess health education needs of individuals, families,
population groups and community related to:
a. smoking and its social, economic, political and health
impact to society
b. smoking and health effects
c. determinants of smoking habits
d. benefits of smoking cessation
e. interventions in smoking cessation

2. Develop a plan for health education that will address specific


learning needs of:
a. smokers and their families
b. non-smokers, vulnerable population groups and general
population
c. smokers who are planning to quit and their families
3. Develop health education materials appropriate to
target population’s age, sex, language, culture and
educational level.

4. Evaluate effectiveness of health information,


education and communication materials & activities.
As a care provider :
1. Assess the client’s smoking history, status and readiness to
stop smoking.
a. Determine the physiologic and psychological status of
the client.
b. Identify the determinants of client’s smoking habits.
c. Determine extent of client’s nicotine dependence
d. Determine factors/resources necessary to support
client’s readiness to stop smoking.

2. Develop a plan of care consisting of interventions


appropriate to client’s readiness to stop smoking.
