Background
Dividend policy is one of the major decisions of
financial management because it affects the
financial structure, the flow of funds, corporate
liquidity, growth of firm, price of share and
investor’s attitudes. After the successful completion
of fiscal year having sufficient profit management
decide to declare dividend to shareholders. The
important aspect of dividend policy is to determine
the amount of earning to be distributed to
shareholders and the amount to be retained in the
firm. It also determines the forms of dividend.
Statement of the Problem
There are many dimensions to be considered on dividend theories,
policy and practices and still many questions unanswered and rose by
the dividend policy. The study seeks to answer such following
questions.
• What type of dividend policies are being adopted by the banks?
• Are the sample banks guided by the specific dividend policy?
• Does dividend policy affect the share price of sample banks? In
what ways?
• Why banks with similar profit range have different dividend
payment decision in same business environment and same market
condition?
• Does the dividend policy affect DPS, EPS, DPR, PE Ratio,
Liquidity Ratio and MPS in stated commercial banks?
Objectives
The study primarily focuses on the dividend
practice adopted by the sample banks and its
relation to other financial indicators. The basic
objective of the study is to make comparative
analysis of dividend policy of selected banks.
But the specific objectives are as follows.
• To analyze the relationship among DPS, EPS,
DPR and PE Ratio on Market Price per Share
(MPS).
• To identify the impact of dividend policy on
market price per share.
Limitations of the Study
• This study has been based on the secondary data which
have been obtained from annual reports of concerned
commercial banks.
• Only those factors like EPS, DPS, MPS, Dividend
Payout Ratio, Cash and Dividend Analysis, Earning
Yield, Dividend Yield have been considered in this study.
• The result obtain from the study can’t be generalized for
all similar organization due to varying nature of their
operation and business.
• This study period has been covered for 10 (ten) years
from 2065/66 to 2075/76.
• The research has been carried out generally for academic
purpose and thus, it lacks practical implication.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Dividend refers to a reward, cash or otherwise, that a
company gives to its shareholders. Dividends can be
issued in various forms, such as cash payment, stocks or
any other form. A company’s dividend is decided by its
board of directors and it requires the shareholders’
approval. However, it is not obligatory for a company to
pay dividend. Dividend refers to the part of earnings
made by the firm that is distributed to the shareholders
as return of their investment over equity share whether
those earnings were generated in the current period or in
previous period. In other words, it is the rewards to the
shareholders for bearing the risk of uncertainty
(Ghimire, 2002).

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This study adopted descriptive and analytical research design.
Population of Study
The target population for the study included NABIL Bank and Kumari Bank
Limited.
Sources of Data
The study is based on secondary data as well as primary data. The data required for
the study purpose has been collected from various sources. The main sources of
data are Nepal Stock exchange (NEPSE), NRB publications, annual reports
2065/66 to 2075/76 of the sample banks and websites of the sample banks and
publications of Security Board of Nepal (SEBON).
Data Analysis Tools
Various financial tools have been used in this study. The analysis of data was done
according to pattern of data available. Mainly the analysis was done by using
financial tools and simple regression analysis. The relationship between different
variables related to study topic were drawn out using financial and statistical tools.
The collected data have been organized, tabulated, processed and analyzed using
various statistical and financial tools
Findings
• The correlation analysis showed that there is positive correlation between MPS of NABIL
Bank which shows that there is no significant relationship between MPS (1) and EPS
(0.461).
• There is negative correlation between MPS (1) and DPS (-0.19) which shows that is
significant relationship between MPS and DPS of NABIL Bank.
• There is positive correlation between MPS (1) and PER (0.742) which shows that there is no
significant relationship between MPS and PER of NABIL Bank.
• There is negative correlation between MPS (1) and DY (-0.244) which shows that there is
significant relationship relation between MPS and DY of NABIL Bank.
• There is positive correlation between MPS (1) and DPR (0.488) which shows that there is
significant relationship between MPS and DPR of NABIL Bank.
• The correlation analysis showed that there is positive correlation between MPS which shows
that there is no significant relationship between MPS (1) and EPS (0.730) of Kumari Bank.
• There is positive correlation between MPS (1) and DPS (.269) which shows that is
significant relationship between MPS and DPS of Kumari Bank.
• There is positive correlation between MPS (1) and PER (.099) which shows that there is
significant relationship between MPS and PER of Kumari Bank.
• There is negative correlation between MPS (1) and DY (0.542) which shows that there is no
significant relationship relation between MPS and DY of Kumari Bank.
• There is positive correlation between MPS (1) and DPR (0.037) which shows that there is
significant relationship between MPS and DPR of Kumari Bank.
