The Parable of the Ten Virgins

Matthew 25:1-13
Matthew 25:1-13
Mat 25:1 "Ang kaharian ng langit ay
maitutulad dito. May sampung dalagang
lumabas upang sumalubong sa lalaking
ikakasal. Bawat isa'y may dalang
ilawan.
Mat 25:2 Ang lima sa kanila'y hangal at
ang lima nama'y matatalino.
Mat 25:3 Ang mga hangal ay nagdala
ng kanilang mga ilawan ngunit hindi
nagbaon ng langis.
Matthew 25:1-13
Mat 25:4 Ang matatalino nama'y
nagbaon ng langis, bukod pa sa nasa
kanilang mga ilawan.
Mat 25:5 Naantala ang pagdating ng
lalaking ikakasal kaya't inantok at
nakatulog sila sa paghihintay.
Mat 25:6 "Ngunit nang hatinggabi na'y
may sumigaw, 'Narito na ang lalaking
ikakasal! Lumabas na kayo upang
salubungin siya!'
Matthew 25:1-13
Mat 25:7 Agad bumangon ang sampung
dalaga at inayos ang kanilang ilawan.
Mat 25:8 Sinabi ng mga hangal sa
matatalino, 'Bigyan naman ninyo kami
kahit kaunting langis. Aandap-andap na
ang aming mga ilawan.'
Mat 25:9 'Baka hindi ito magkasya sa
ating lahat. Mabuti pa'y pumunta muna
kayo sa tindahan at bumili ng para sa
inyo,' tugon naman ng matatalino.
Matthew 25:1-13
Mat 25:10 Kaya't lumakad ang limang
hangal na dalaga. Habang bumibili sila,
dumating ang lalaking ikakasal. Ang
limang nakahanda ay kasama niyang
pumasok sa kasalan, at isinara ang pinto.
Mat 25:11 "Pagkatapos, dumating
naman ang limang hangal na dalaga.
'Panginoon, panginoon, papasukin po
ninyo kami!' sigaw nila.
Matthew 25:1-13
Mat 25:12 "Ngunit tumugon siya,
'Tandaan ninyo, hindi ko kayo nakikilala.'"
Mat 25:13 Pagkatapos nito'y sinabi ni
Jesus, "Kaya't magbantay kayo, sapagkat
hindi ninyo alam ang araw o ang oras
man."
• The parable of the ten
virgins is based on
ancient Jewish wedding
customs.

• The bridegroom and his friends

escorted the bride from her home
to the home of the bridegroom.
• Along the way friends of the
bride waited to join them.
• When they arrived at
the bridegroom’s
home, they all went
inside for the
wedding.

• These weddings usually took place in

the evenings, so those waiting for the
bride and bridegroom carried lamps.
Three Truths From the Ten Virgins:
Three Truths From the Ten Virgins:
1. No one knows when Jesus is
coming again, but when He does it
will be sudden!
Matthew 25:5-6
Mat 25:5 Naantala ang pagdating ng
lalaking ikakasal kaya't inantok at
nakatulog sila sa paghihintay.
Mat 25:6 "Ngunit nang hatinggabi na'y
may sumigaw, 'Narito na ang lalaking
ikakasal! Lumabas na kayo upang
salubungin siya!'
Matthew 25:5-6
Mat 25:5 The bridegroom was a
long time in coming, and they all
became drowsy and fell asleep.
Mat 25:6 At midnight the cry rang
out: Here’s the bridegroom!
What is “that time”??
What is “that time”??
• “That time” is the very last days
before Jesus comes again
• “That time” is the culmination of
“birth pangs”
1. Distress
2. Global evangelism & harvest
3. For most, “life as usual”
Matthew 24:37-39
Mat 24:37 Ang pagdating ng Anak ng Tao
ay tulad sa pagdating ng baha noong
panahon ni Noe.
Mat 24:38 Nang mga araw na iyon, bago
bumaha, ang mga tao'y nagsisikain, nag-
iinuman, at nagsisipag-asawa hanggang sa
pumasok si Noe sa barko.
Mat 24:39 Hindi nila namamalayan ang
nangyayari hanggang sa dumating ang
baha at tinangay silang lahat. Gayundin ang
mangyayari sa pagdating ng Anak ng Tao.

outward appearance, but our inner
preparations that will matter:
Three truths from the Ten Virgins:
2. When Jesus comes, it is not our outward
appearance, but our inner preparations that
will matter:

– All were professing Christians

– While the Bridegroom’s coming was delayed, all
were subject to the rhythms & demands of
every day life
What is Oil?
1. “Oil” is the preparations I have made in this
life to meet Him face to face in the next life.

“Oil” is the sum total

of my Christian life!
Two truths about oil:
• “Oil” cannot be shared or transferred

“Give us some of your oil,

our lamps are going out.
No! There is not enough
for both of us.”
Mt. 25:8-9
Two truths about oil:
• “Oil” cannot be obtained in an instant

“Oil” only comes

through an investment
of time and at a
personal cost
Three truths from the Ten Virgins:

3. A time is coming when it will be

too late to get ready any more:
Matthew 25:10-11
Mat 25:10 Kaya't lumakad ang limang
hangal na dalaga. Habang bumibili sila,
dumating ang lalaking ikakasal. Ang
limang nakahanda ay kasama niyang
pumasok sa kasalan, at isinara ang pinto.
Mat 25:11 "Pagkatapos, dumating
naman ang limang hangal na dalaga.
'Panginoon, panginoon, papasukin po
ninyo kami!' sigaw nila.
Matthew 25:12-13
Mat 25:12 "Ngunit tumugon siya,
'Tandaan ninyo, hindi ko kayo
nakikilala.'"
Mat 25:13 Pagkatapos nito'y sinabi
ni Jesus, "Kaya't magbantay kayo,
sapagkat hindi ninyo alam ang araw
o ang oras man."
• What is it that we can learn from the
Lord’s parable?
– We do not know when the Lord is
coming again
– We should always be prepared because
of this
– We need to keep our spiritual lamps
filled with the oil of good works and
faith
Conclusion
• No one knows when we will meet the Lord
(Just like the virgins didn’t know when the
bridegroom was coming)
• We have to be awake and careful of our
spiritual life so that we may be ready to
enter into Heaven with the Lord (The
foolish virgins were not allowed into the
church because they were not ready)
• When the Lord does come, we want Him
to know us and for us to know Him well
also (The bridegroom told the foolish virgins
that he did not know them)
