What are fables?
• The word fable is derived from the Latin
word fibula, which means “a story,”. Fable
is a genre that can be defined as a concise
and brief story intended to provide a 
moral lesson at the end.
Structure:
1- Short stories

2- Few characters (mainly 2)

3- Simple kind of narrative with


basic beginning, complication
(climax), and traditional
resolution.

4- Resolution should be a moral


(an important lesson)

Purpose
• To teach the reader a lesson.

Language features
- Dialogue used only to advance the plot
and to state the moral of the story
- Characterization is limited and specific.
Eg. A lazy hare, A crafty raven.. Etc.

How can you describe the moral of the story?

No matter how rich or poor one may be, what matters more is to live
freely and in peace.
Think about your own fable in page 94 ,then plan
for it using this graphic organizer :
Your homework is:
Writing Task:
Write your own fable with animal characters,
where good behavior is rewarded, and bad
behavior is punished. At the end of the story
make one of the characters say the moral of
the story.
Make sure you use:
- Third person
- Past tenses
- Animals with human characteristics
- Good behaviour is rewarded bad
behaviour is punished
