within them before entering into teaching profession.
• Let us discuss some significant professional code of ethics for teachers that
will assist the teachers to educate the students efficiently and effectively:-
1. The teachers should always be aware of his/her roles and responsibilities.
2. Teachers should respect the privacy of other members of their own school
and maintain confidentiality information.
3. Teachers should always stay away from conflict between their professional
work and private interests
4. Teachers should show affection, care and love with students.
5. It is important for teachers to be honest, reliable and dedicated towards
school and students.
6. The teachers should not be biased while imparting and evaluating the
students' performance related with academic and co- curricular activities.
UNETHICAL PRACTICES

CORRUPTION
• The major cause for decline in ethical standard in education system is
due to rapid increase in corruption.
• Corruption in education can includes: -
1. illegal fees for admission and examination
2. academic fraud
3. withholding teacher salaries
4. preferential promotion and placement
5. charging students for “tutoring” sessions to cover the curriculum
needed to pass mandatory examinations which should have been
taught in the classroom
UNETHICAL PRACTICES

PRIVATIZATION OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTES

• Privatization of educational institutes is another major cause for decline
in ethical values in education.
• Permission and recognition given by government to open self-financed
private institutions, where educational institutes act as the traders and
students are their customers.
• These institutions run various courses without basic infrastructure and
qualified faculties.
• The teachers appointed in such institutes are paid low with no job
security and are far away from the required teaching standards.
UNETHICAL PRACTICES

POLITICAL INTERFERENCE
• The political interference is largely responsible for misuse of human resource management in education.
• Political parties often use many teachers as their party workers and these teachers also participate willingly in
politics.
• Those teachers who are very close to political leaders have records of: -
1. irregularity in class teaching
2. becoming absent from the workplace without taking leave.
• Favoritism, partiality and bribes are major types of misconduct in teacher’s appointment, placement and transfer
UNETHICAL PRACTICES

FORCED EDUCATION
• Not all children are the best in academics.
• Each child is gifted with a unique talent and that talent varies from
person to person.
• Thus, the quality of education a kid gets should be based on his talent and
niche.
• If a kid is genuinely not interested in studies but is remarkable at art, then
he should be given the option to choose art full time.
• In our country most of the parents don’t allow them to choose their own
desirable fields.
• Even it’s not a good thing for their children to force them.
CONCLUSION

• It has been quoted that the true philosophy of education lies in the combination of Virtues, Values and Validity of human life. Education
is not merely imparting knowledge in a particular faculty or subject or making one fit for securing jobs or fare well in exams, it should
be training in logical thinking and should help the coming generations adjust to the available changing environment.
• Human beings can be either unfriendly or peaceful by education. The aim of ethical education is to provide people to make decisions by
their free wills. You can teach norms easily, but you cannot teach easily to obey these rules unless you teach ethics.
• The declining of ethical values in education system will give rise to unskilled professionals, undisciplined students.
• This trend needs to be addressed if India has to survive as a nation and acquire its due place in the world. Corruption, privatization,
absence of teacher, undue political interference is the probable causes of ethical deterioration of Indian education system.
• Thus there is an urgent need to re-introduce value based education in the curriculum dealing specifically with human values, to redesign
the fabric of Indian educational system. In India, it is necessary to increase ethical values, philosophical thinking, study, research and
moral development in education system.
