LOGICAL FRAMEWORK

What is logical framework

• The logical framework or logframe is a document that gives an overview of the
objectives, activities and resources of a project.
• Logframe is one of the key tools used in Project Management and Monitoring and
Evaluation
What is LFA?
• The logical framework Approch (LFA) is a methodology mainly used
for designing, Planning, Monitoring, and evaluating international
development projects.
• This approach help in measu ring change as a result of the projects
intereventions.
HISTORY OF LFA
• It emerged as in response to poor planning and monitoring of
development projects implemented over the period of time.

• In 1969 the first logical framework was developed for USAID United
state department defense.
Four planning Questions and steps
1. What are we trying to accomplish and why?
2. How will we measure success?
3. What other conditions must exist?
4. How do we get there?
DIRECTIONAL LOGICS
VERTICAL LOGIC
• Define and align objectives
Horizontal logic
• Describe success and how to verify
ZigZag logic
• Incorporates critical assumptions
Objectives Success Measures Verification Assumptions
Goal WHY?
Purpose why?
Outcomes why?
Inputs why? WHO? WHEN?

Objectives
Goal = WHY SAVE THE FARM

Purpose = Why They Will Come

Outcome = What Built it (field)

Input = How Cut corn, etc
