Reuse
Reuse is the action or practice of using an item, whether
for its original purpose or to fulfil a different function.

Why Reuse?
» We are told to conscientiously recycle, reuse or upcycle
our waste so that it does not end up in one of the many
overflowing landfills.
» One excellent option here is to rethink waste, as raw
materials for home decor items, stationery and daily
need products.
» For example, when you use plastic bottles to
manufacture a T-shirt, you reuse whatever is at your
disposal and secondly, you eliminate the need to
cultivate/make other raw material.

Rapanui
Cow poo and Cloud tech

» The company’s growing partners optimise use of

rainwater, co-planting and insect traps, plus a special
ingredient: cow poo.

» Rapanui now makes clothes from certified organic

cotton, in a wind-powered factory and using low-waste
print technology.

» Rapanui has pioneered a traceability tool allowing

conscientious consumers to map their T-shirt, from
seed to shop. The brand also pays people to return
products for remanufacturing at end of life.

Pots from upcycled electronic waste

» We are the fifth-largest producers of electronic waste

(e-waste) in the world, thanks to the ever-increasing
use of phones, desktops, laptops and other electronics.

» EWA uses discarded electronics and upcycles them into

pretty flower pots, that also double up as a pen stand.

Clothing from Plastic Bottles

» Although India recycles nearly 60% of its plastic waste,

approximately 9400 tonnes of it ends up in water
bodies anyway.

» Every T-shirt made by this label recycles 12 PET bottles

for the fabric.

» Since the shirt is manufactured using only recycled

plastic, it also saves the 2600 litres of water that is
needed to produce enough cotton for one T-shirt.

Waste leather and fire hoses

» Having learnt how decommissioned damaged fire

hoses headed to landfill, founders Kresse Wesling and
James “Elvis” Henrit set out to rescue the resource.

» For more than a decade now, no London fire hose has

gone to landfill, with over 175 tons of material
reclaimed.

» In 2017, the Burberry Foundation teamed up with Elvis

& Kresse to tackle leather waste. Their five-year
partnership will see 120 tonnes of off-cuts recrafted.
