Feeding :
• It is primarily a carnivorous species.
• It has few natural predators because of its thick skin, strength and
ferocious defensive abilities.
• Specialized diet is wheasle family to wolverine.
• It accesses large part of food by digging it out of burrows.
Characteristics :
• Honey badger has fairly long body.
• Skin around neck is 6 millimeter thick.
• Head is small and flat with a short muzzle.
• The eyes are small and ears are little more than ridges on
the skin.It is adaptation while fighting.
• Females are smaller than males.
• Males weigh 9 to 16 kg.
• Females weigh 5 to 10 kg.
Reproduction :
• Its gestation period is thought to last 6 months
usually resulting into two cubs which are born blind.
• They vocalise through plaintive whines.
• Its lifespan is 24 years.
• Males emit loud grunting sound when mating.
Habitat :
• They live in the close vicinity of human dwelling
leading to many instances of attack on poultry, small
livestock and sometimes even children.
• The Fauna of British India the honey badger has also
been reported to dig up human corpses in that country.
Distribution :
• Honey badger is widely distributed in
Africa, Southwest Asia and the Indian
subcontinent.
• Because of its wide range and occurance in
a variety of habitat it is listed as least
concern on the IUCN Red List.
