01 WHAT IS STRESS?
A physiological reaction that occurs in
response to a perceived threat or danger
It intends to keep the body out of harm and
therefore helps the body take action quickly
02 GENERAL ADAPTATION SYNDROME (GAS)
            ALARM STAGE
shock phase- body drops its
resistance towards the stressor
countershock phase- body reverses
back to start fighting the stressor

● ADAPTATION STAGE
● body stays at a higher metabolic
level to battle the threat
● PNS tries to bring back other
physiological functions to normal

EXHAUSTION STAGE
the body has depleted its
resources by trying but failing
to recover from the initial
alarm reaction stage
