INTRODUCTION
Geothermal energy is the thermal energy generated and
stored in the earth crust
It forms due to radioactive decay of minerals
Production is extremely environmentally friendly and used
in many purposes.Those are

1.In agriculture(heating of GH)

2.Thermal baths

3.power generation
HISTORY
Geothermal originates from Greek word GEO means
earth and THERMOS means hot
The temp at the core may reach 4000.c ,this high temp
and press in the earth’s interior cause some rock to
melt so water is heated
PRINCE PIERO GINORI invented the first GTPP in
1904 in ITALY
WORKING PRINCIPLE
Geothermal Power Station Types
o DRY STEAM POWER PLANTS:-
-These are the simplest and oldest design, they
directly use geothermal steam of 150.c or greater to
turn the turbine
o FLASH STEAM POWER PLANTS:-
-They pull deep, high pressure hot water into
lower pressure tanks and used the resulting flashed
steam to drive turbines. They requier fluid temp of at
least 180.c and usually more. This is the most common
type of plant today
Name Of Top 10 Countries
United States(3086mw installed capacity,.3% national energy
production)
Philippines(1904mw,24%)
Indonesia(1197mw,3.7%)
Mexico(958mw,3%)
Italy(843mw,10%)
Newzealand(700mw,10%)
Iceland(575mw,30%)
Japan(536mw,3%)
El salvador(240mw,14%)
Kenya(167mw,11.2%)
GTPP IN INDIA
Chhattisgarh govt has decided to establish the first
GTPP of the country at TATTAPANI in Balrampur
district of his state
Fortunately state govt has granted permission for the
installation of GTPP to the NTPC
Now its operation is running and it will be the first
GTPP of our country a govt officially said
ADVANTAGES:-
It is environmentally friendly
Low running cost
It saves 80% cost over the fossil fuel
Reduced global warming and pollution
DISADVANTAGES:-
Initial investment is high
Requires large time for power generation
Skilled persons required
Geothermal sites may contain some poisonous gases
and they can escape with in the earth, through the
holes drilled by constructors
CONCLUSSION:-
It is an alternative energy which can fulfil the shortage
of electric energy. So improvement to existing
geothermal power energy are worth considering
