Who are Managers ?
Managers are almost never actually what they are defined as.

-They are often people whose work can never be


defined, estimated or evaluated

Interpersonal Roles

• Figure head – He performs various Ceremonial Duties

• Leader – They are responsible for the actions of their team

• Liaison – He helps the organizational groups to work with each other


and provide information to each other
Informational Roles

• Monitor – Scans the environment for information

• Disseminator – Passes privileged information to subordinates

• Spokesperson – Shares the information to people outside the unit


Decision Roles
• Entrepreneurship –- He always has new ideas to adapt with the
changing environment

• Disturbance Handler – Responding to situations, even if they are not


under his control

• Resource Allocator – Decisions regarding who gets what

• Negotiator – Negotiations become a regular activity for any Manager


Thus,
Role of a manager = combination of all 10 roles

(They cannot be easily separated)

Finally, a Manager can be effective only when he has a proper insight


of his own work.
