INTRODUCTION
• The world’s tallest man-made structure ever built.
• The Burj Khalifa was revealed to be 828m (2,716ft)high,
far than the previous record holder, Taipei 101.
• He tower also lays claim to the highest occupied floor,
the tallest service lift, and the world’s highest
observation deck – on the 124th floor.

4
• The $1.5bn tower is more than twice the size of the
Empire state Building and the construction took
thousands of workers six years to complete.
• Burj Khalifa employed the latest advances in wind
engineering, structural engineering, structural systems,
construction materials and methods.
• All design considerations took into account the 12,000
people who will live and work in the tower.

5
ARCHITECTURAL STYLE
• The architecture features a triple lobed footprint, an
abstraction of a desert flower named Hymenocallis.
• The tower is composed of three elements arranged
around a central core.
• Twenty six helical levels decreases the cross section of
the tower incrementally as it spirals skyward.

6
DESIGN INSPIRATION
• The architects of Dubai incorporated islamic traditional
partners and modern sophistication to design a structure
that will stand the test of time.
• The end product is a visually stunning building , towering
over the Dubai skyline.
• They did not lock further afield for influence as Dubai’s
rich with inspiration.

7
THE BUILDING
• The Burj which stands 828m high and has more than 162
inhabitable floors, can be seen from 60 miles away.
• The world’s highest mosque and swimming pool are located
on the 158th and 76th floors.
• The tapering spire is made of reinforced concrete, steel,
stainless steel and glass. The exterior cladding of reflecting
glazing is designed to withstand Dubai’s extreme summer
temperatures.
• The building contains more than 1,000 apartments and 49
floors of office space, served by 57 lifts
• The foundations were dug to depths of 50m(164ft)

8
BURJ KHALIFA IN NUMBERS
• 95 : distance in km at which its spire can be seen.
• 504 : rise in meters of its main service lift.
• 49 : number of office floors.
• 57 : number of lifts
• 1,044 : number of residential apartments.
• 900 : length in feet of the foundation at the foot of the
tower, the world’s tallest performing foundation.
• 28,261 : number of glasses cladding panels on the
exterior of the tower.

9
STRUCTURAL SYSTEM
• A Y-shaped floor plan provides high- performance and
maximizes views of the Persian Gulf.
• Has a “buttresses-core” of HPC walls.
• Each wing buttresses the other via a six sided central
core or hexagonal hub.
• This central core provides the torsional resistance.

10
• Corridor walls extend up to the end of wing, with
hammer head walls at the end.
• The perimeter columns are connected at mechanical
floors in order to resist lateral loads.
• Three storey height outriggers tie the tower at different
heights periodically.

11
WIND ENGINEERING
DESIGN
• The upward spiraling set back shaping has the effect of
confusing the wind.
• As the wind encounters a different shape at each new
tier the wind vortices never gets organized.
• It's tallest point, the tower sways a total of 1.5m.
• The first mode has a period of 11.3 sec, the
perpendicular lateral sideway second mode 10.2 sec.

12
WORLD RECORDS
• Tallest building in the world.
• Tallest free-standing structure in the world.
• Highest number of stories in the world.
• Highest occupied floor in the world.
• Highest outdoor observation deck in the world.
• Elevator with the biggest travel distance in the world.
• Tallest service elevator in the world.

13
THE CONSTRUCTION
• The tower is composed of three elements arranged
around a central core.
• The design is said to be based on the desert region.
• The Y-shaped floor plan aims to maximize views of the
Gulf.
• As the building rises, its floor space decreases in size.
• The building’s core also features double-decker
elevators, said to be some of the fastest in the world.

14
FOUNDATION DETAILS
• 3.7m thick pile supported raft-12500 cu m of
C50 SSC concrete.
• Raft supported by 194 bored cast-in-place
• Piles of 1.5m dia and app. 43m long.
• Capacity of each pile 3000 tones.
• Piles made of C60 SSC concrete placed by
termie method utilizing polymer slurry

16
WINDOW CLEANING
• A horizontal track has been installed on the exterior
at three levels 40, 73 and 109, for window cleaning.
• Each track holds a 1.5 ton bucket machine which
moves horizontally and then vertically using heavy
cables.
• The top of the spire, however, is reserved for
specialist window cleaners, who brave the heights
and high winds dangling by ropes to clean the top
panels.

17
ELEVATORS
• The building is expected hold up to 35,000 people at any
one time.
• So transportation as well as evacuation of the building is
an important consideration.
• Otis elevators has installed 58 elevators, which include
twenty Gen2 flat belt elevators.
• The observation deck elevators can carry 42 people at a
time and travel up to 18m/sec.
• Some elevators are programmed to allow controlled
evacuation during fire or emergency situations.

CONCLUSION
• Here we come to know that BURJ KHALIFA is a business,
demography, economics, mathematics, organization,
marketing, accounting, and so on subjects which we
learn.
• It is a business of attraction, entertainment, fun,
happiness given by them to us.
• The construction of Burj Khalifa has set a new benchmark
which is quite challenging.
