CHERNOBYL
• It is the story of April 1986 nuclear plant which occured in
Ukarine.

• The movie begins with Dyatlov dismissing the evidence that

the core of nuclear reactor has blasted.

• Legasov was called for providing the technical advice. From

a helicopter, Legasov points out graphite debris and a blue
glow from ionizing radiation, indicating the core is exposed.

• Delay in a safety test and Dyatlov’s impatience, leads to a

power strike.
• Design flow in the control rod escalated the power to
ten times the reactor limit.
• Detained by KGB.
• Dedicated to those who " suffered and sacrificed".

ETHICAL DILEMMA

The explosion could have been avoided if not for

flawed reactor design and human carelessness. The
soviet system put national pride overhuman life, the
following story is an example of that.
Description of Ethical Dilemma:

• Chief engineer responsible for a module is threatened

by his boss that he will be defamed publicly if the
module isn't working for the product launch.
• The chief engineer resorts to unethical methods inorder
to save his job and reputation.
• He decides to fake a voice demo of Apple's new
product- Macintosh.
• This is decision is further supported by Apple co-
founder Steve Jobs.
Reaction of characters
• This Scene involves 3 people namely - Steve jobs (Co founder),
Joanna Hoffman (Marketing executive), Andy Hertzfeld (Chief
product Engineer).

• Andy has to make an important decision that either he can lose his
job and reputation or taking whatever it takes to save himslef from
humiliation.

• Steve on the other hand a stubborn, particular and an adamant fellow,

is not willing to let go of the voice demo from the launch.

• Joanna who knows that the actions they are taking are unethical but
has to adhere to Steves request and being a businesswoman, knows
that there is no other option but to resort to deception.
The reason for choosing this clip

• Relatable

• When pressurized by peers or superior one might have no

other option but to resort to unethical practices.

• The situation should be analyzed carefully for the

opportunity costs.
Ethics theories in the clip
• This can be considered as a case of Caveat Emptor.

• As reputated company like Apple is deceiving their

customers to make their product look more appealing.

• Deontological Ethics can be seen here as there is a

possibility of making "right" choices with bad
consequences.
Our Opinion
The steps taken by Steve and his associates were all
right. It is because those actions were not harming
anyone as the model that they used for
presentation, was anyways going to be for sale in
the near future and the model that they are actually
selling can be debugged for the voice demo to work
before the sales begin.
