What is Hospital Pharmacy?
Hospital pharmacy defined as a department in which
drugs are
procured, preserved, stored, compounded,
assayed, manufactured, dispensed, packaged and
distributed to in-patients, out-patients by
professionally competent and legally qualified
Pharmacists.

Drugs are distributed only on presentation of RMP


or Physicians
What is Clinical Pharmacy?

Clinical pharmacy is defined as that area of pharmacy which is


concerned with the various aspects of Patient care and deals not
only with dispensing of drugs but also on safe and rational use of
drugs

. Clinical Pharmacists provide PATIENT CARE that optimizes


medication therapy and promotes health ,wellness and
disease prevention
SYLLABUS
1. Hospital-Definition-Function, classifications based on various criteria,
organization, Management and health delivery system in India.
2. Hospital Pharmacy: Definition Functions and objectives of Hospital
pharmaceutical services. Location, Layout, Flow chart of materials and
men. Personnel and facilities requirements including equipments based
on individual and basic needs. Requirements and abilities required for
Hospital pharmacists
3. Drug Distribution system in Hospitals. Out-patient service, In-
patient services- types of services detailed discussion of unit Dose
system, Floor ward stock system, satellite pharmacy services, central
sterile services, Bed side pharmacy
4. Manufacturing: Economical considerations, estimation of demand.
5. Sterile manufacture-Large and small volume parenterals, facilities,
requirements, layout production planning , man-power
requirements.

5.Non-sterile manufacture-Liquid orals, externals,
Bulk concentrates. Procurement of stores and testing
of raw materials.
Nomenclature and uses of surgical instruments and
Hospital Equipments and health accessories.
6. P.T.C.(pharmacy Therapeutic Committee)
7.Hospital Formulary system and their organization,
functioning, composition.
8. Drug Information service and Drug Information
Bulletin.
SYLLABUS
9.Surgical dressing: like cotton, gauze, bandages
and adhesive tapes including their pharmacopoeial
tests for quality. Other hospital supply eg. I.V.sets,
B.G. sets, Ryals tubes, Catheters, Syringes etc .

10. Application of computers: in maintenance of


records, inventory control, medication monitoring,
drug information and data storage and retrieval in
hospital retail pharmacy establishment.
