Abstract
Flyrock is uncontrolled dispersion of rock fragments from
blast areas caused by explosive energy. It holds for about 30%
of Accidents caused at mine site and it is cause of many fatal
Accidents. Geological uncertainites, bad blast design and bad
execution of blast design are major causes of flyrock
generation. At site different measures are used for minimising
the impacts Of flyrock. Most popular of them are use of
Emperical models and Artificial intelligence based models. In
accuracy the AI models Have a upper hand over the
Emperical models still most of the Mines prefer to use
Emperical models rather than using AI basesd models.
Emperical models have cost efficiency as well as easy
handling over AI based models. These models provide
optimal blast design parameters to the user which will be
very helpful in mitigating the effects of flyrock. For
example Mine Excellence blast clearance software predict
that at given parameters upto what distance flyrock will
travel. Similarly Mine Excellence softwares provide user
with a simulation blast so he/she can correct the parameters
if the results are unwanted.
There are some others methods also present to mitigate the
effect of flyrock like using muffling arrangements, better
safety measurement, proper guarding of blast area, etc.
