Cyprus

About Cyprus:
 In 1960 Cyprus became independent of Britain (it had been a crown colony since 1925) as the
Republic of Cyprus. The long-standing conflict between the Greek Cypriot majority and the
Turkish Cypriot minority and an invasion of the island by Turkish troops in 1974 produced an
actual—although internationally unrecognized—partition of the island and led to the
establishment in 1975 of a de facto Turkish Cypriot state in the northern third of the country.
The Turkish Cypriot state made a unilateral declaration of independence in 1983 and adopted
the name Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Its independence was recognized only by
Turkey.
LANGUAGE:
 The official languages of the Republic of Cyprus are Greek and Turkish. In Northern Cyprus,
Turkish was made the only official language by the 1983 constitution.  The everyday spoken
language of the majority of the population is Cypriot Greek.

Food:
1-Halloumi
Halloumi is probably Cyprus’ most famous product, with its popularity extending to many countries throughout Europe
and the Middle East. Distinguishable by its mild salty flavour and rubbery texture, the delicacy has become a favourite
for chefs across the globe, appearing in dishes as diverse as lamb roast and halloumi fries.
2-Souvlakia and sheftalia
A spin-off from the famous Greek dish, the Cypriot-style souvlaki consists of small chunks of charcoal-grilled meat on a
skewer, and a large amount of fresh salad filling. It’s a very popular meal, as many locals catch up over a pitta
of souvlakia. The pitta bread used is thinner and larger than the Greek version, and usually contains a pocket to hold the
ingredients, rather than wrapping the filling in the Greek way.
The meat is commonly pork or chicken and can be accompanied by sheftalia. These are spiced sausage parcels with
herbs, minced pork or lamb that are grilled. Alternatively, there are vegetarian options too, with mushroom and halloumi.

Why Did I chose this country??
 I visited this country this year, first reason is that citizens there are so helpful and neat. In the
streets of Cyprus, you’ll rarely are going to find garbage in the street and at the bay. The prices
there are not expensive and not cheap.
