General Objectives
Helping the child and the family to deal
with the psychologic and sociologic
problems related ro the child disorder
and educating the child, the family,
peers and the public toward a more
realistic and liberal view of the disease
Specific Objectives
After 1 hour nurse patient interaction, the
patient will able to:
-control seizures and reduce their frequency
-Discover and correct the course when
possible
-Help the child who habe recurrent seizure to
live a normal life as possible
-Patient's family can identify the appropriate
care during seizure
Environment
Advised the patients family to have a safe
environment interms of the extent of precautions
on type, severity, and frequency of seizure.
-Siderails must be raised when the child is sleeping
or resting
-Have the siderails and other hard objects padded
-Waterproof mattress/pad on bed
-Appropriate precautions during potentially
hazardous activities
-Supervision during the use of hazardous
machinery/equipment
Treatment
-Take medications daily as prescribed to keep the
drug level constant to prevent seizures
-Avoid activities that require alertness and
coordination until after the effects of the medications
have been evaluated
-Avoid seizure triggers such as alcohol beverages,
electric shocks, stress, caffeine, constipation,fever,
hyperventilation, I and hyperglycemia
-Develop regular sleep pattern to minimize fatigue
and insomnia
-Exercise in moderation in temperature controlled
environmentto avoid excessive heat
Health Teaching
-OVERVIEW OF THE DISORDER
a seizure disorder can be acquired as a result of brain injury
during prenatal, perinatal, or postnatal periods. This injury
may be caused by trauma, hyperglycemia, hypocalcemia,
and certain nutritional deficiencies
-LONG TERM CARE
Care of the child with recurrent seizure disorders involves
physical care and instructions regarding the importance of
the drug therapy and its problem related to the emotion
aspects of the disorder
-TRIGGERING FACTORS
Careful and detailed documentation of seizure over a
period of time may reval a pattern factors that may trigger
seizures
Observable Signs and Symptoms
-Trembling
-Disturbed sleep
-Disorientation
-Illusions/hallucinations
Diet
The patient is advised to follow ketogenic diet which
severely restricts carbohydrates and protein intake
and uses fat as a primary fuel to produce ketosis
Spiritual
Advised the patient'smother to take frequent visit to
the church every Sunday as per choice
