Viscosity?
Viscosity is the state of being thick, sticky, and semi-fluid in consistency, due to internal friction.
It is the measure of a fluid's resistance to flow. It describes the internal friction of a moving
fluid. The greater a lubricant's viscosity, the greater pressure or load it can withstand, and the
better it maintains separation between moving parts. But there are limits to this relationship. If
the viscosity is too high, it won't flow as readily and your engine will work harder and burn
more fuel.

Capillary Tube

Capillary action is the ability of a liquid to flow in narrow spaces without the
assistance of, or even in opposition to, external forces like gravity.

*Houillon type capillary tube.

*For high viscosity, EasyFlow can be great use. EasyFlow viscometers can be
provided starting from tube constant 1.0.
Duplo measurement tubes

The optional duplo measurement upgrade adds another array of optical

fibers to the instrument, bringing the total number of detection points to
three per tube instead of two.  Together with adapted S-flow tubes,
which are fitted with two measuring trajectories, this enables the S-flow
870, S-flow 1250 and the S-flow 3500 to perform duplo measurements
with a single sample injection, increasing productivity, saving even more
on solvent consumption and runtime
What is lubricant

A lubricant is a substance, usually organic, introduced to reduce friction between

surfaces in mutual contact, which ultimately reduces the heat generated when the
surfaces move. It may also have the function of transmitting forces, transporting
foreign particles, or heating or cooling the surfaces. The property of reducing friction
is known as lubricity.

In addition to industrial applications, lubricants are used for many other purposes.
Other uses include cooking (oils and fats in use in frying pans, in baking to prevent
food sticking), bioapplications on humans (e.g. lubricants for artificial joints),
ultrasound examination, medical examination. It is mainly used to reduce friction and
to contribute to a better and efficient functioning of a mechanism.

Why we should use?

Lubricating oil, sometimes simply called lubricant/lube, is a class of oils used to

reduce the friction, heat, and wear between mechanical components that are in
contact with each other. Lubricating oil is used in motorized vehicles, where it is
known specifically as motor oil and transmission fluid.
Pros and Cons
A significant reduction in viscosity can result in:
1. Loss of oil film causing excessive wear
2. Increased mechanical friction causing excessive energy consumption n Heat generation due to
mechanical friction n Internal or external leakage
3. Increased sensitivity to particle contamination due to reduced oil film
4. Oil film failure at high temperatures, high loads or during start-ups or coast-downs.

Likewise, too high a viscosity can cause:

1. Excessive heat generation resulting in oil oxidation, sludge and varnish build-up
2. Gaseous cavitation due to inadequate oil flow to pumps and bearings
3. Lubrication starvation due to inadequate oil flow
4. Oil whip in journal bearings
5. Excess energy consumption to over- come fluid friction
summary

Gathering viscosity data on a material gives manufacturers the ability to predict

how the material will behave in the real world. For example, if toothpaste does
not have the correct viscosity, it can either be too difficult to pump out from the
tube, or pump out too much.
