• Place of Birth: Baltimore, Maryland. • Childhood: Her mother died when she was still young so she was raise by her aunt. • Education: Frances was able to go to school as the daughter of free black parents she attended a school for African American children. • Major Accomplishments & Significance to U.S. History: In 1854 she published Poems of Miscellaneous Subjects which had one of her most famous works, "Bury Me in a Free Land." Frances also became an in-demand lecturer on behalf of the abolitionist movement. Harper worked among African Americans as a representative of the Women's Christian Temperance Union.
