The Covid 19 Pandemic

Prepared by: Ken Jared P. Molato

The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is the defining global health
crisis of our time and the greatest challenge we have faced since World War
Two. Since its emergence in Asia late last year, the virus has spread to every
continent except Antarctica.

Every day, people are losing jobs and income, with no way of knowing when normality
will return. Small island nations, heavily dependent on tourism, have empty hotels and
deserted beaches. The International Labour Organization estimates that 195 million
jobs could be lost.
COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover
without hospitalization .

Symptoms

Most common disease Less common disease

Fever Aches and pains
dry cough Sore throath
Tiredness Diarrhea
Conjunctivitis
Headache
Lose of taste or smell
a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers
and toes
How does coronavirus disease spread?

COVID-19 is transmitted from person to person via droplets, contact, and fomites. It is
transmitted when one individual talks, sneezes, or coughs producing ‘droplets’ of saliva
containing the COVID-19 virus. These droplets are then inhaled by another person. COVID-
19 transmission usually occurs among close contacts -- including family members and
healthcare workers. It is therefore important to maintain a distance of more than 1 meter
away from any person who has respiratory symptoms.
How to prevent the spread of the coronavirus

Clean your
hands often.

Stay at home Maintain a safe

distance from anyone
as much as Prevention who is coughing or
you can. sneezing

Wear a mask when

physical distancing
is not possible
Today, as our nation grapples with the threats of a villain -  an invisible enemy that is the COVID-19 - we realize that
being a hero does not necessarily mean having superpowers. We realize that our modern-day heroes no longer wear
capes but rather they wear lab suits and personal protective equipment (PPE). Our modern day heroes are those who
choose to work despite the danger of the pandemic, those who continue to serve the Filipino people.
Our heroes are the Frontliners - the health authorities, military and police personnel, journalists, food delivery
drivers, government employees, bank employees, janitors, garbage truck collectors, and traffic personnel. They are
the people who choose to remain in the frontlines.
