Ephesians 6:13–18

[13] Therefore take up the whole armor

of God, that you may be able to
withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand firm. [14] Stand
therefore, having fastened on the belt
of truth, and having put on the
breastplate of righteousness, [15] and,
as shoes for your feet, having put on the
readiness given by the gospel of peace.
[16] In all circumstances take up the
shield of faith, with which you can
extinguish all the flaming darts of the
evil one; [17] and take the helmet of
salvation, and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God, [18] praying
at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer
and supplication. To that end, keep alert
with all perseverance, making
supplication for all the saints, (ESV)
Daniel 3:16–18
[16] Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the
king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this
matter. [17] If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to
deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us
out of your hand, O king. [18] But if not, be it known to you, O
king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden
image that you have set up.” (ESV)
What is faith?
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen. (ESV)
Romans 8:24–25
For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is
seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he
sees? [25] But if we hope for what we do not see,
we wait for it with patience. (ESV)
Where does living, saving faith come from?
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God...
1 Corinthians 12:9
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another
gifts of healing by the one Spirit, (ESV)
Why is a shield associated with faith?
Daniel 3:17–18
If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver
us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver
us out of your hand, O king. [18] But if not, be it known
to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or
worship the golden image that you have set up.” (ESV)
Matthew 14:28–31
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to
come to you on the water.” [29] He said, “Come.” So Peter got
out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.
[30] But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning
to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” [31] Jesus immediately
reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O
you of little faith, why did you doubt?” (ESV)
Matthew 4:10–11
Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is
written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God
and him only shall you serve.’”[11] Then the devil
left him, and behold, angels came and were
ministering to him. (ESV)
Ephesians 4:11–16
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the
evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, [12] to
equip the saints for the work of ministry, for
building up the body of Christ,
[13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith and
of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature
manhood, to the measure of the stature of the
fullness of Christ, [14] so that we may no longer be
children, tossed to and fro by the waves and
carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human
cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
[15] Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to
grow up in every way into him who is the head,
into Christ, [16] from whom the whole body,
joined and held together by every joint with
which it is equipped, when each part is working
properly, makes the body grow so that it builds
itself up in love. (ESV)
