Definition of Terms

• Awards- anything tangible granted an individual or unit


recognition of acts of gallantry or heroism, meritorious
service or skill and proficiency.
• Appurtenance- device added or attached to the
basic decoration to signify and distinguished each
deed as succeeding deeds or requirements falling
under the same category of the decoration.
• Conspicuous- clearly distinguishable above others
in the performance of one’s unit.
Definition of Terms

• Eminently- high in merit characterized by a


high degree of performance of one’s duty
• Exemplary- a commendable deed act or
service which sets example or illustration.
• Meritorious Service- a praiseworthy execution
of duties over a period of time.
• Honorable-a praiseworthy accomplishment of
duties or service showing a sense of what is
right proper and noble.
Definition of Terms

• Meritorious Achievement- a praiseworthy


accomplishment with easily discernible beginning and
end.
• Outstanding- a performance of duty or service that
exceed normal expectation.

• Major Responsibility- duty of such character or position of


such nature as to significantly influence the
accomplishment of the primary mission of a major
command or military contributory to the realization of
major objectives of the AFP and the government.
Definition of Terms

• Position of Major responsibility- the office


or position duly created at the Major Services,
AFPWSSUS, Unified Command, GHQ or at
higher levels with T/O rank requires O6 and
above.
• Service Medal- an award generally given in
recognition of honorable performance of duty
during a specified campaign or conflict.
Definition of Terms

• Service Ribbon- a ribbon identical in color with


the suspension ribbon of the service medal it
represents , attached to a bar equipped with a
suitable attaching device. It is issued with each
service medal.
Definition of Terms

• Military Decoration – an award given on a


restricted individual basis in recognition of and
as a reward for heroic, extraordinary, outstanding
and meritorious acts, achievements and services.

• Wound- an injury on any part of the body


inflicted by an outside force, elements or agent
as the result of a hostile act of the enemy or
while in action in the face of an armed enemy.
Definition of Terms

• Enemy- a person or a group of persons


opposed to duly constituted authority through
violence and who seeks to injure or destroy
lives and properties.
• Citation- a written narrative of an act, deed or
meritorious performance of duty or service
for which an award is made.
Definition of Terms

• Medals- the distinctive physical device of metal


and ribbon which constitute the tangible
evidence of an award.
• Founding Day Awards- it shall include the Offr,
EP, CE and Supervisors of the Year.
• Valuable- a performance of duty or service
having estimable importance.
• Decoration- a piece of metal/ material
representing an award.
Policies and Procedures
Character of Awards
• Should be timely
• A recommendation based on a period of
meritorious service in a given assignment if:
a. Individual was relieved
b. Active but performing the duty for the last 3
years
Limitations
• Only 1 award shall be made for the same act,
achievement or service
• Duplicating awards shall not be made for
outstanding achievement and inclusive
meritorious service within the same period of
time.
Manner of wearing
• Medals
- above the left breast pocket in rows of 3
- line of medals is about 4 inches below the
middle point on the top of the shoulder
- the highest award shall be to the right in the
upper row
- the lowest in the lower row to the wearer’s
left
• Badges
- must not exceed 3
- may be worn at all times
- worn above the line of medals on the left
breast pocket and right breast pocket
respectively
• Ribbons
- worn in lieu of an authorized decoration and
service medal
- 1 ribbon per decoration or medal only
Occasions for Wearing
• On formal military attire or the service
uniform during:
- state occasions, local or abroad
- when receiving or calling or acting as escort or
aide to the PRP
- in all official and social functions at Malacaňang
- as escort of the colors
Cos may prescribe wearing on ff occasions:

• Parades, review, inspection and funerals


• Ceremonial and social occasions
• SGOU
When not to wear
• When equipped for combat
• Officers while suspended from command or
rank or facing court martial or ESB
• EP while serving sentence of confinement
• When wearing civ clothing, except for civ
decorations

Gold Cross

• for gallantry in action


not warranting the

the Citizen Armed Forces
Geographical Units
(CAFGU) or civilian
officials.

accomplishments

commendation in the
discharge tasks

position requirements or
quality of their
performance.
UNITED NATIONS SERVICE MEDAL

• To military and civilian


personnel of the Armed
Forces of the Philippines.
• For service to any
member nation on behalf
of the United Nations
organization in
peacekeeping operations
or for service in support
to the United Nations
actions.

participating in aerial
flight and a single act
of merit or for
participation in
sustained operations
activities against the
enemy while in an

performance of non-
military activities and
community
development
programs and other
related activities,
which merit public
recognition.

areas of the Philippines.

pacification campaign
and operations in
Luzon for at least six
months.
VISAYAN ANTI- DISSIDENCE CAMPAIGN MEDAL &
