 SKY APPLINCES
• Sky appliances ltd, a division of Videocon group is
situated near Varsamedi village (Gandhidham).
• It has 37 acres of land at one plant.
• Sky TV unit has a buildup area of 14368 sq. meter.
• Sky CPT TV unit has a buildup area of 25160 sq.
meters.
• Sky has 40 employees on pay roll base and all
labors are on contract base.

• In this project SKY divide its supplier according to distance.
• Suppliers divide in diameter of 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 km.
• According to distance transportation time or lead time is
decided.

• 6 SIGMA:
• SKY introducing SRT, 5S, 5R, 6 tools to achieve 6 sigma for
production.

SYSTEM APPLICATION PROCESS (SAP)
 SAP is one of the ERP software which comes under the best
business practices and is flexible in nature. It is globally
present.
 SAP is said to be “integrated” as it overcomes the limitations
of traditional hierarchical and function-oriented structures by
integrating financial accounting, sales and material planning,
production planning, warehouse management, and human
resources management into a workflow of business events
and processes across departments and functional areas.
 Transaction code from A to X is default & Y to Z are
customize.

 SAP DISADVANTAGES:
• Locked into relationship by contract and manageability
with vendor - a contract can hold a company to the
vendor until it expires and it can be unprofitable to switch
vendors if switching costs are too high
• Inflexibility- vendor packages may not fit a company's
business model exactly and customization can be very
expensive
• Return on Investment may take too long to be profitable
• SAP ERP implementations have a risk of project failure.

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Sky distributing knowledge of expert by e mail &
telephone across the globe. One senior person from R&D
department visit plant every month.
Videocon create knowledge directories of employees with
special area of expertise & other member of organization.
R&D department send blue print (documented) for
assembly line of new model to SKY for production, so it
is a structured knowledge (explicit knowledge).
Employees of SKY take advice of experts via e-mail or
telephone, so it is semi structured knowledge (Tacit
knowledge).

Learning Management System
Sky has innovation school which basically deals
with 6 days training for labor before performing job.

GIS (Geographic information system)

Videocon group using data visualization tool to
locate a center which gives maximum tax benefit,
facilities for transportation & cheap labors, so
Videocon decided to establish a new plant in
KUTCH as SKY Appliances.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT
• It is a co-ordination or linkage between the
activities involved in buying the raw material
and making a TV & Washing machine.
• Bill of Material goes to Production Planning
and Control (PPC) department and the PPC
department generates information and gives to
production department

CONT…
• PPC Department is an interface between production and
marketing department.
• ITEM CODE of all the items is available in SAP. If new item
is entered then a new code is entered in SAP then with that
code a purchase request is opened in SAP. Purchase
Requisition goes to the Head of the Department (HOD), and
if the HOD approves it then he releases the Purchase
Request.
• Then a purchase order is released on the vendor. (PO
includes quantity required, rate, value, and delivery time
required). Then the goods are delivered by TRUCKS.

• A receipt is received in acknowledge with reference
to Purchase Order, an entry is done on the Gate.
• Stores department will receive the goods and unload
and physically count the no. of units mentioned as
per challan.
• If the units are according to the challan then Goods
Received Note is given.
• Then the lot goes to Quality Check. If the Quality
Check department approves then payment is made
by Accounts Department.

 SUGGESTIONS

• After doing cost benefit analysis, SKY

can use punch card system for labor
attendance to reduce daily clerical work
for attendance of labor.
