Introduction

-Task-Based Learning (TBL) is a lesson structure, a method of sequencing activities in

your lessons.

-Task-Based Learning is a good way to get students engaged and using English.
task -based (source)

-Task-Based Learning (TBL) has made many researchers, teachers, and methodologists
evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. Although it has been used for many years, its
popularity has increased. One of the main reasons for this attention is the desire of
educators to promote real communication or the exchange of meanings rather than forms.
what is task based learning?

(TBLL), also known as task-based language teaching (TBLT), focuses on the use of
authentic language and on asking students to do meaningful tasks using the target
language.

-such task can include visiting a doctor, conducting an interview, or calling customer
service for help.
definition of a task
-according to Rod Ellis (2007), a task has four main characteristics.

-a task involves a primary focus on meaning (pragmatic).

- a task has some kind of “gap”.

-the participants choose the linguistic resources needed to complete the task.

- a task has a clearly defined outcome.

TASK-BASED APPROACH

- In this approach teachers let students learn the lesson by completing their given task.

- Task-based language teaching (TBLT) proposes the use of tasks as a central

component in the language classroom because they provide better contexts for
activating learner acquisition processes and promoting L2 learning.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT?
- Students learn by interacting
- Focus on using and eliciting authentic language
- Participation in and completion of tasks
- Input and output
- In task-based learning, a lesson or unit is designed to help learners to complete a task
- In task-based learning the language content is defined, not by a grammar syllabus,
but by what learners need to complete the task
The advantages of TBL

- The students are free of language control.

- A natural context is developed from the students' experiences with the language that is
personalised and relevant to them.
- The students will have a much more varied exposure to language with TBL.
- It is a strong communicative approach where students spend a lot of time communicating.
- It is enjoyable and motivating.
Why try it in your class?

Task-based learning helps students because it forces them to do something in class that
they would do (and probably have done!) in their own language.
How does it work?

- In a task-based approach, learners learn by doing.

- Task activities are usually rich in language, involving a wide variety of language
areas, as well as all the skills; reading, writing, listening and speaking.
