Exercise 1: UTRAN Capacity Areas
Task1:
BTS: R99 CE utilization
EP1: To monitor the CE status and utilization use the M5006 WBTS R99 HW resource KPIs
on the LCG level.
EP2: There are two options for monitoring the CE status and usage with the BTS HW
measurements:
1. M5006 WBTS R99 HW resource KPIs on the LCG level
2. M5008 WBTS level monitoring on the BTS level
The user can follow the average CE usage on both the LCG and the BTS levels, and the
total CE usage on the LCG level separately in the uplink and downlink

HSxPA processing set utilization

EP1: Use the M5006 WBTS R99 HW resource measurement (LCG level) based counters
and M5002 Cell Throughput in WBTS measurement (cell level) based KPIs to monitor the
number of simultaneous users and maximum throughput measurements (against the limits
set by processing set licenses).
EP2: Recommendation is to use the M5008 measurement based KPIs that show directly the
utilization percentage separately for HSDPA and HSUPA processing set utilization on the
WBTS level. The M5006 based counters are still valid but are not needed anymore for this
monitoring purpose.

Exercise 3: Radio Access Bearer
4. HSPA
HSDPA efficiency:
What is the HSDPA Efficiency and what is the value measured?

RNC_607d  HSDPA Successful transmission ratio i.e. efficiency of HSDPA data

transmission between BTS and HSDPA Capable UEs done by MAC-hs. Based
on successfully sent MAC-hs PDUs divided by totally sent MAC-hs PDUs. (Total
number of all successful sent MAC-hs PDUs divided by total number of all
transmitted MAC-hs PDUs (including retransmissions)) – describes the efficiency
of the link adaptation mechanism.
To analyze also: RNC_706b Average reported CQI (RU40) --- not existent in
RU30!!!

HSUPA efficiency:
What is the KPI equation for the Efficiency of HSUPA?
RNC_917a HSUPA MAC-e BLER (Block Error Rate calculated based on HARQ
successful transmissions that didn't require any retransmissions compared to all
successful transmissions (regardless of the number of retransmissions) and
failed transmissions) - MAC- e scheduler efficiency!

Exercise 3: Radio Access Bearer
5. Mobility Success Rate
What is RT / NRT Soft handover success rate KPI
RNC_153b  Soft Handover Success Rate RT: Success rate for all started
active set updates (addition, deletion, replacement), RT = 100 *
sum( [M1007C15] ) / sum( [M1007C10] + [M1007C12] + [M1007C11] )
RNC_191b  Soft Handover Success Rate NRT: Success rate for all started
active set updates (addition, deletion, replacement), NRT = 100 *
sum( [M1007C32] ) / sum( [M1007C27] + [M1007C29] + [M1007C28] )

What is RT / NRT Inter-System hand over success rate KPI?

RNC_300h  Inter System RT Hard Handover Success Ratio: Inter System Real
Time User Hard Handover Success Ratio [%] for the reporting period in the
Source Cell of the Hard Handover
RNC_301f  Inter System NRT Hard Handover Success Ratio: Inter System
Non Real Time User Hard Handover Success Ratio [%] for the reporting
period in the Source Cell of the Hard Handover
 The Real Time and Non Real Time Inter System HO differs in nature.
Therefore the ISHO KPI is splitt to RT and NRT parts
 The Multi RAB ISHOs are only updated for RT counters. This is because the
NRT RB follows the RT parameters when it is part of RT + NRT Multi RAB

Exercise 5: Traffic analysis
Task2:
Investigate the RAB and DCH holding times per service type (Voice,
Video, R99 PS, HSDPA, HSPA) in adequate format.
Compare your results with those of the other groups. What are your
observations?
Necessary measurements:
RNC_280b  Average CS Erlang - KPI is mainly meant for busy hour follow-
up
RNC_745a  Voice min does not include SHO overhead = sum
[M1001C199] ) / 6000
RNC_746a  UDI min - does not include SHO overhead = sum(
[M1001C201] ) / 6000
RNC_5058a  NRT RAB dur - RAB duration is counted in that cell where
RAB ended, even if RAB started in other cell = sum ([M1001C209] +
[M1001C211]) / (100*60)
RNC_5059a  NRT ses dur = sum ([M1001C213] + [M1001C215]) /
(100*60)

Exercise 5: Traffic analysis
Task3:
Determine the mean time between drop KPI your RNC.
Does the KPI look good? (What is good? Do you have a target for this KPI?)
Compare your values to those of the other groups in the course.
Do you see any peculiarities or prominent features in the report?
What further investigations would you think of?

Necessary measuremets:
RNC_737b  Min per Drop Voice (sum( [M1001C199] ) /(100*60)) /
sum( [M1001C144] + [M1001C145] + [M1001C146] + [M1001C147] +
[M1001C148] + [M1001C150] + [M1001C392] + [M1001C690])
RNC_738b  Min per Drop UDI
RNC_5082a  PS RAB minutes per drop
RNC_5083a  PS DCH minutes per drop: active phase (Cell DCH state) of
PS RAB time for INT&BACK traffic in minutes per one drop
