ne vide i megaliti vari ergersi fra le mangrovie
Ma il suo sguardo era altrove, levigato dal sole,
che sfibrava cirri e nembi in corsa verso l’Ovest.
Ora filava a vele complete di controfiocco,
là dove anche le baleniere non s’arrischiavano al sorpasso
del tropico.

The joy in his heart flowed into his tameless eyes. Sumatra was
visible through the channel’s estuaries: he saw various
megaliths rising through the mangroves. But he was looking
somewhere else, touched by the sun that went through the
clouds while moving West. His ship was moving at full speed,
in the same spaces where not even whaling ships would risk
crossing the Tropic.
