STEWARDSHIP IN OLD TESTAMENT
Psalm 24:1

• The earth is God's

creation, everything
in it and all who live
in it
Deuteronomy 10:14

• To the Lord your God

belong the heavens, even
the highest heavens, the
earth and everything.
• People should have
the drive to serve

• Human beings are created by God to look after earth, and
thus God’s dominion, is the responsibility of the Christian
steward
MATTHEW 25:14-30
PARABLE OF THE TALENT
STEWARDSHIP IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
• We are expected to be “stewards” and manage the resources
we are given
• The “tithe’ or giving of a tenth are found in the throughout the
bible
• “tithe represents the returning to God a significant, specific,
and intentional portion of material gain.
• Giving is not limited to the tithe or a specific amount
PRESENT MEANING AND NATURE OF
STEWARDSHIP
STEWARDSHIP IN THEOLOGY

• Stewardship is a belief that humans are responsible for

the world, and should take care of it.

• In Christian tradition, stewardship refers to the way time,

talents, material possession, or wealth are used or given
for the betterment of the creation.
• Utilizing and managing all resources God provides for
the glory of God and the betterment of the creation.

• The central essence of biblical world view

stewardship that God brings into the believers life in a
manner that honors God and impacts eternity
• Stewardship begins and ends with the understanding of
God’s ownership of all.

• “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the
beginning and the End.”
CHRISTIAN VIEWS OF
STEWARDSHIP
• Christian responsibility in maintaining and using
God’s gifts. This has reference to environmental
protectionism.
• Stewardship is living out a commitment to be
Christ-centered rather than self-centered.
• Profound gratitude, justice and love become the
fundamental motives for giving back to God.

• As different ways, we share our time, talent, and treasure

to build up the Church and make our world a better place.

• We have to take an active part in the life of the Church

and to share the gifts of salvation.

THE LOVE FOR HUMAN LIFE
TOPIC 1:

THE SIXTH COMMANDMENT

THEOLOGICAL FOUNDATION

You have heard that it was said to the men of old,

“You shall not kill; and whoever kills shall be
liable to judgment.” But I say to you that
everyone who is angry with his brother shall be
liable to judgment. (Matthew 5:21-22)
VALUE OF LIFE

● Envy and hatred

● Cain and Abel – first account of
murder in the Bible
● Violent enmity and killing
● God reminds us to keep valuing the
gift of life (Sixth Commandment:
Thou shalt not kill).
VALUE OF LIFE

Life must be the greatest of gifts because with it, man has
been able to achieve all the progress that flourishes today.
DESECRATING LIFE
● Killing desecrates a most valued gift from the Creator.
● It puts an end to what one human being can possibly do and achieve.
● It brings loss to others left behind by the victim of killing.
DESECRATING LIFE

● In the spirit of Christian justice, even the “least” of humanity like hardened criminals,
terminal patients and fetuses of unwanted pregnancies are human beings who deserve
mercy and hope.
● Any deliberate way to terminate a human life is immoral and unjust.
LOVE LIFE

● Christians should love life because it is the door to happiness and fulfillment.
● Anything that threatens it constricts the possibility of enjoying the world, more so attaining
what God has ordained for us in the end.
LOVE LIFE

● Maintaining and protecting a decent

and healthy life is a duty of every
Christian.
● Likewise, respect and care for the
lives of others.
● This is a supreme manifestation of
maturity in faith because in
recognizing the life that God endowed
us, we show our being God’s family.
LIVE TO THE FULLEST

● Each of us wants a good life.

● It is achievable when we look into
what we have gone through and what
we still have to go through with the
correct attitude, such as being grateful
for the blessings we have received
amidst depressing realities.
● Life will be good for as long as we
see God’s goodness.
LIVE TO THE FULLEST
● The Lord said, “I came that thou might have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10).
● God humbled Himself and lived as human among us.
● He showed us the way of living life of fulfillment despite its hardships and sorrows.
● He wants us to do the same.
TOPIC 2:

HEALTH AND WELLNESS

HEALTH AND WELLNESS AS OUR
RESPONSIBILITY
● Since life is sacred, we are bound to care for it and anything we do that
threatens life is nothing less than irresponsible.
● Christian should recognize the human body as temple of the Holy Spirit.
HEALTHY LIVING AND LIFESTYLE

Do’s Don’ts

Good food Smoking

Plenty of Sleeping late

exercise and short

Sleep Drinking at
parties,
drinking sprees
Regular check- Gambling
ups

Drug addiction
GOOD FOOD: FDA FOOD PYRAMID
TYPES OF EXERCISE
● ENDURANCE - keep your heart, lungs, and
circulatory system healthy and improve your
overall fitness. Examples are running and brisk
walking.
● STRENGTH - make your muscles
stronger. Example is lifting weight.
● BALANCE - help prevent falls, a common
problem in older adults. Example is tai chi.
● FLEXIBILITY - stretch your muscles and can
help your body stay limber. Example is yoga.
WELL-BEING NOT GOOD LOOKING

● Health is not a matter of good appearance though especially if we talk about total
well-being, physical and mental.
● Many people today are desiring looks that approximate those of tv/movie
personalities by way of cosmetic drugs, surgery and similar intervention. This
they do to the detriment of the body.

PHYSICAL HEALTH MENTAL HEALTH EMOTIONAL HEALTH

DIGNITY IN BEING HEALTHY
● Men spend most of their time to earn
money and forget the well-being of their
body, and towards the end of their lifetime
they spend most of their money to recover
the lost health of their body.
● This is not the kind of stewardship that God
requires us.
DIGNITY IN BEING HEALTHY
● Dignity in being the noblest creature on
earth stems from our ability to be with God
in our ideals and practices.
● Care of the body should be a top priority for
our Christians.
BE HEALTHY. BE HAPPY.
TOPIC 3:

ISSUES AND PROBLEMS ON

HUMAN LIFE
Human life being sacred should not be
dispensed with no person has the right to do
so, for every lost life means a loss to his
loved ones, an interruption of his earthly
existence and all of God’s plans that go with
it, and a termination if not total destruction
of a temple of the Holy Spirit. Actions or
practices that relate to ending or ruining
human life should therefore be subject to
moral scrutiny.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME ISSUES ON
ENDING OR RUINING HUMAN LIFE:
1. Murder - deliberate killing is wrong whether it be of another person
(homicide, if not intentional), of oneself (suicide) or of many (genocide).
In suicide, the offender often misses the fact that the impact reaches even the
people around and not only himself. Thus, it is a social crime. In self-defense, the
aggressor’s death is acceptable only if the person defending himself has no other
recourse but to kill his assailant
ABORTION

● A fetus is a defenseless person,

regardless of its appearance and
conditions of pregnancy.
● Contraception, a means to prevent the
meeting of the sperm cell and egg
cell, is a step away from abortion.
Kinds of abortion Kinds of contraceptives
CAPITAL PUNISHMENT
The state has taken back its stand on death penalty. The truth is deterrence from crimes
does not hold much water to push for execution of criminals. Christians believe that
they deserve a chance to reform, considering that many of them are victims of social
circumstances.
MUTILATION AND TORTURE

Whether inflicted as penalty or traditional practice, ruining the body by pain or

dismemberment is inhuman. As for willful organ donation, nobility is indicated.
But sale of organ for simple gains remains to be desire especially ligation and
vasectomy are forms of mutilation.
ligation vasectomy sale of organ for simple gains
EXTREME SPORTS

● The sixth commandment forbids

exposure to life, endangering
activities like skydiving and bungee
jumping particularly if done without
any sublime reason. These are nothing
but foolhardy hobbies that taunt
disaster and death
EUTHANASIA
● No one has the right to terminate life just to ease the
unbearable suffering of another. The word was taken
from greek terms “eu” meaning good and “Thanatos”
meaning death. But euthanasia or mercy killing is not
good death, thus not acceptable. If the person asks for it
the act amounts to suicide making use o another person.
The church, however, allows the unplugging of
sophisticated medical apparatus that sustain a comatose
existent. This last gesture even alleviates the decency of
life of the relatives who are enduring the burden of
expenses for the patient.
CLONING
● The word refers to the reproduction of a being with the use of DNA taken
from another of its kind. A breakthrough came from a British experiment
wherein a lamb was grown from a DNA of an ewe’s breast. Human beings
should be excluded from these, because God ordained a definite manner of
procreation by male and female.
CLONING
● Cloning is asexual or agametic, a
complete departure from the natural
origin of life. Stem cells, growing
organs or tissues from human sources
life fetuses, are a different story.

● If done for the purposes of life-saving

or life-enhancement research, the
church allows it.
ARTIFICIAL FERTILIZATION

● Babies born in vitro (test tube)

fertilization are the result of acts that
substitute the God-ordained conjugal
act. Said acts should be excluded
from the Christian Moral order.
ARTIFICIAL FERTILIZATION

● Conjugal act is the consummation of

Christian marriage rooted in the
complementarity of human and
woman who are both willing to share
their entire life and to elevate the act
to a sacrament or communion of love
These practices are condemned as part of the culture of death in the 1995
encyclical of Pope John Paul II Evangelium Vitae (Gospel of life). The Holy
Father reiterates the value we ought to give human life, God’s most intimate
gesture of unconditional love for us.
TOPIC 4: SUMMARY

THE ROLE OF SPIRITUALITY IN

HUMAN LIFE
The synonym of the HOLY SPIRIT IS
HOLY GHOST

It means wind or breath

This role of Spirituality in human life, the

life-style and practices of Christian virtues
must be embodied in each believer through
sacraments, personal prayer, which
contribute to the richness of ministerial
action.
The minister or the priest programs his life of
prayer through the following items:

● Attend Holy Mass

● Frequenting the sacrament of Confession or
reconciliation and spiritual direction
● Saying personal prayer or mental prayer
● Having the Marian devotions like Holy
Rosary and other pious exercises.
THE SPIRITUALITY AND SOCIAL
TRANSFORMATION

The care for spiritual life should be felt as a

joyful duty and a right of the faithful.

Life is the greatest gift that God has given us, a

precious and divine gift from God that we must
give the full respect.
Spirituality is spiritual works that involves
prophecy, healing, discernment.

Social transformation and spirituality of human

life is a process by which an individual alters
the socially ascribed social status of their
parents into a socially achieved status of
themselves.
TOPIC 5

GOOD MANNERS AND RIGHT

CONDUCT DURING MASS
FAST BEFORE MASS

It is Church law that one fasts for at least 1 hour before
receiving Holy Communion. Water and medicine can be
consumed, of course.
The purpose is to help us prepare to receive Jesus in the Eucha
rist.
NO FOOD AND DRINK IN CHURCH.
►The exceptions would be a drink
for small children, water for the
priest or choir (if discreet) and
water for those who are ill.
Bringing a snack into church is not
appropriate, because we want to
set the church apart as a place of
prayer and reflection.
MEN TAKE YOUR HATS OFF
►It is impolite to wear a hat into
a church for a man. While this is
a cultural norm, it is one that
we ought to follow closely.

►Just as we take off hats for the

Pledge of Allegiance, we do so
in church too; as a sign of
respect.
DON’T CHEW GUM IN CHURCH

►It breaks your fast, it’s

distracting, it is considered
impolite in a formal setting,
and it doesn’t help us pray
better.

►Can you imagine the Pope

popping gum in during Mass?
CROSS YOURSELF WITH HOLY WATER ON
ENTERING AND LEAVING
THE CHURCH
►This is a reminder of
our Baptism, which made us members
of Christ’s Chu
rch.

►Just try to remain mindful

of what is happening when
you do so and don’t do it
without saying a prayer.
DRESS MODESTLY AND
APPROPRIATELY
►Wear your Sunday Best.

►As Catholics we believe

that God comes down
to meet us at every
Mass. So, why would we
not dress up?
SHOW UP AT LEAST A FEW
MINUTES EARLY
►If for some reason you can’t be on
time, then try to sit in the back
so you don’t disturb others.

►Getting to Mass early allows you

to pray and prepare yourself
better for Mass.
CELL PHONES SHOULD NEVER BE USED IN MASS
FOR CALLS OR TEXTING.
►The exceptions are emergencies (big ones, not everyday
ones) and if you do use one, please walk out of church to do
so.

►Also, if you are using the phone for

readings or prayers,
this is appropriate,
but try to be discreet.
WHEN WE ENTER AND LEAVE CHURCH,
GENUFLECT TOWARD THE TABERNACLE
►Christ is present for our sake.

By allowing our right knee to hit the

floor, we acknowledge He is our Lord
and God. If someone is physically
unable to genuflect, then a bow is
sufficient.

During Mass, if you pass in front of the

altar or tabernacle, bow reverently.
PLEASE BE QUIET WHILE IN
CHURCH
►Once you enter the sanctuary –
it is not the time or place to
visit with those around you.
►If you must talk do so as quietly
and briefly as possible.
Remember that your conversation
might be disturbing someone who is in
prayer, which is much more important.
BOW BEFORE RECEIVING HOLY
COMMUNION
►If it is God, then show your
respect with a bow of the head.

This is an ancient practice that

has continued until this day.
LEAVE QUIETLY
►We encourage you to visit with
others, but once you are outside
of the main sanctuary of the
church so you won’t disturb
others who want to stay and
pray.
So, please leave quietly and then
have then visit afterward.

ECOLOGICAL BALANCE

Theological Foundation:
This one true God, of His own
goodness and Almighty power, not for
increasing His own beatitude, nor for
attaining His perfection, but in order to
manifest his perfection through the
benefits which He bestowed on
creatures, with absolute freedom of
counsel and from the beginning of time,
made out nothing both orders of
creatures, the spiritual and the
corporeal.
The Role of Man in
Ecology
• We believe that God created the
universe according to His
wisdom.

• He made all things and beings

out of nothing, and this sets Him
apart from an artisan who
fabricates something from some
pre-existing that will make the
whole creation complete,
balanced and orderly.

• He thought of all things that will

be of service and function to His
greatest creature, man.

Common Good and Technology

God is the ultimate environmentalist, man just learns from him. With the gift
of intellect and wisdom from God, man has achieved wonders of science and
technology: cellphones and I-pods, computers with internet, household
appliances, office and work equipment's, life and health support systems, and
other unprecedented items that make existence convenient and pleasant.

Technology is obviously a mere tool for human development and a

subservient contributor for the common good. It should be treated as an
instrument, not a master of human appetite and decisions.
SPECIAL ISSUES IN ECOLOGY

Theological Foundation

Do not start worrying: “where will my food

come from? Or my drink? Or my clothes?
These are the things the pagans are always
concerned about. Your father in heaven
knows that you need all these things.
Instead, be concerned above everything else
with the kingdom of God and with all He
requires of you, and He will provide you
with all these other things.
Population Vs. Ecology

Population
• Population growth by means of family
planning and contraception.

Timeline of Implementation & Result

• Website analysis, audit, and other

important elements are achieved in the
first month.
• Results, depending on the competition,
are normally achieved within 3 to 6
months. These include: rankings, traffic,
and potential online conversion.
Overconsumption vs Destruction

Google AdWords, or Pay-Per-Click (PPC) is a model

of internet marketing in which advertisers pay a fee
each time one of their ads is clicked. Essentially, it's a
way of buying visits to your site, rather than attempting
to “earn” those visits organically. Search Engine
Marketing (SEM) is one of the most popular forms of
PPC. The gain in traffic is supposed to translate into
additional sales.
BENEFITS OF SEARCH ENGINE MARKETING (SEM-SEARCH)
