A notation based on 100, which makes it very


convenient for use in business and industry.
A fraction whose denominator is exactly 100.

Given Meaning To change decimal to percent, follow these steps.
15 -change the decimal to a fraction with a denominator of 100
15% -change the fraction to percent by replacing per hundred by the % sign.

CHANGING FRACTIONS TO PERCENT
To change fractions to percent, first change the fraction to decimal, and then change the decimal, and then
change the decimal to percent.

Example:

CHANGING PERCENT TO DECIMAL


To change percent to decimal, replace the percent by a fraction bar over a denominator of 100. Then, simply
divide by 100, which means that all you have to do is to move the decimal point two places to the left.

To change percent to fraction, replace the percent sign by a denominator of 100 and reduce the
fraction to lowest term.

2. If a woman saved Php 5 000 from her monthly income of Php 12 500, what
percent of her income did she save?
3. How much money would have to be invested at 5% to earn Php 1 000 a year?
4. Mrs. Omeping buys a stereo for Php 3 800. The sales tax is 6%. How much
sales tax does she have to pay?
5. Lourdes scored 23 out of 30 on mathematics test. What percent score is this?
