FACING THE NEW NORMAL: CHALLENGES

FACED BY ELEMENTARY TEACHERS

Rationale/Background

 With the outbreak of pandemic COVID 19, the life-work


situation of millions of people over the countries affected
by the virus had changed.
 In the Philippines, President Duterte issued different
memoranda placing the entire Luzon under Community
Quarantine, then Enhanced Community Quarantine and
others.
 These resulted to a worsening situation in which many
workers were affected.
 In fact, many workers have lost their source of income,
temporarily or permanently, or otherwise suffered a
reduced income.
Rationale/Background

 To this effect, a lot of establishments and industries


were ordered to temporary closed its operations and to
arrange a flexible work arrangement
 The situation of the public teachers were not exemption
to such. There is a work arrangement for the teachers
which were approved by the Regional Directors of
respective Regions.
 In a news, the DepEd highly discouraged teaching and
non-teaching personnel from physical reporting to
schools this August amid COVID -19 pandemic even in
low risk areas (Mapilot, 2020).
Rationale/Background
 In this regard, the teachers are facing challenges in the new
normal.
 There are complains heard from teachers who are required to
report physically due to the fact that location of the house is
within the location of the school.
 There are also observations that teachers who were living in far
places from the school spent too much for their transportation
allowance due to the protocols for social distancing which is
practiced even in public utility jeepneys.
 Much more, a lot of challenges are experiencing in preparing for
the module based instruction, especially for the seasoned
teachers whom mostly, are not capable in using technology for
downloading materials for use and updating and communicating
with the learners for the proposed asynchronous delivery.
Rationale/Background
 Some complains were also hear regarding the misconceptions
of the parents as the learning buddy of their children, for not
every parent is capable of teaching their children for
different reasons such as working parents, low educational
background, and their personal reasons that they are sending
their children to school to be taught by the teachers and not
by them.
 Teachers are also facing challenges in getting support of the
community and local government unit, specially during the
remote enrolment.
 In this regard, this research will be conducted, to find out
how the teachers faced the different challenges for the new
normal arrangement this SY 2020-2021 and find out possible
intervention.
Statement of the Problem
1. What is the profile of the teachers when grouped into:
1.1 age;
1.2 gender;
1.3 civil status;
1.4 geographical location of the school
1.4.1 low land (along and near the highway)
1.4.2 upland (mountainous and hills)
1.5 grade level taught
1.6 number of pupils handled

2. What are the challenges faced by the teachers in the
“new normal” of teaching the learners for SY 2020-2021 with
respect to:
2.1 readiness of the teachers;
2.2 adaptability of the learners;
2.2 acceptability of the parents;
2.3 involvement of the stakeholders (LGU) and
2.4 support of the stakeholders?

3. How do the challenges affect the life-work situation of
the teachers in terms of the following:
3.1 health and safety of the teachers;
3.2 economical condition; and
3.3 work commitment?
4. Is there a significant difference among the challenges and
its effect to the life-work situation of the teachers when
grouped into profile?
5. What intervention program can be proposed?
