EAR INFECTION

(OTITIS)

Ear
What’s is Ear ?
Ears are the senses of the listener and human
balance.
One of the ear abnormalities is infection. Ear
infections are divided into five:
1. Pericondritis
2. Eczema
3. Otitis Externa
4. Preauricular Abscess
5. Otomokosis
Anatomy of Ear
Otitis Externa
Otitis externa is inflammation of the ear canal due
to bacterial infection. There are two types :
Acute
• Circumskripta otitis externa
• Diffuse otitis externa

Chronic
Circumskripta Otitis Externa
Otitis ekterna circumskripta is an infection
outside the ear canal due to a bacterial infection.
The most common form is the boil form of
one of the sebaceous glands of the outer ear
canal.
Usually results from the frequent patient
poking around the ear canal. So called triassic:
GKS (Itchy-Match-Pain)
Diffuse Otitis Externa
Otitis ekterna difusa is an infection of two parts of
three in the ear canal infection infection.
Idiopathic, trauma, irritant, bacterial or fungal,
allergic and environmental causes.
Generally the cause of the bacteria is
pseudomonas.
Other causes of bacteria are Staphylococcus albus,
Escheria coli and so on.
Clinical Symptoms

1. The symptoms are the same as the


symptoms of circumskripta otitis
externa (boils = boils).
2. Ear pain (otalgia).
3. Sometimes secretions that smell but
are not mixed with mucus (mucin).
Diagnosis
The diagnosis of otitis externa is made on the basis
of history, physical examination and investigation.
Obtained from history taking complaints ear aches,
feels full, hearing is reduced, and itchy.
On physical examination obtained hyperemic ear
canal skin, and edema with unclear boundaries, the
presence of secretions taken and not containing mucin.
Management of Otitis
Diffuse otitis externa therapy, namely :
1. Given tampons containing antibiotics.
2. Systemic antibiotics sometimes we need to
give.
3. Thorough ear cleaning is the most important
part of handling infections in the ear canal
