WHAT IS MODIFIERS?
 Modifiers are used to clarify,explain,describe and otherwise
delimit the meaning of other parts of speech and sentence
elements.
 These are words,phrases,or clauses that give descriptive details.
 When considering the proper form of a modifier, ask yourself what
word is being modified.
HOW TO IDENTIFY MODIFIERS

 The first step in identifying modifiers is to read the sentences and


look for descrptive words.
 You should then look at each deskriptive word and try to
determine whether it is an adjective or an adverb.
 An adjective describes a noun or pronoun.
 Social Function :
To clarify or make clearer the meaning of the subject, predicate,
direct object or indirect object.

Language Features :
1. Using adjective
2. Using adverb
3. Using correct punctuation
TYPES
 a). Adjective
If the modifier functions as adjective, it can be simple adjective,
adjective phrase, clause, participle or infinitive and to explain noun.
b). Adverb
If the modifier functions as adverb, it can be simple adverb,
adverb phrase, clause, prepositional phrase or infinitive, it will
explain verb, adverb, or the other adverb.

ADJECTIVE AS NOUN
 Adjectives are words that are used to describe a noun. In other
words, adjectives tell us the quality of nouns. Examples of
adjectives are fresh, fiery, tall, and new. 
EXAMPLES
1. She is a good tennis player. (a kind of tennis player)
2. This is an easy exercise. (a kind of exercise)
3. She gave the swing a gentle push (a kind push she give the swing)
4. Her new shoes ( a kind of shoes )
5. Lionel Messi is the best football player ( a kind of football player )
