GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming relates to increase in average temperature
of Earth’s surface.
It is caused by green house gases.
They leads to green house effect.
GREEN HOUSE EFFECT
Process of obsorption and emission of IR radiation by
gases.
Gases Warms planets surface and atmosphere.
Have mean warming effect of 33 degrees centigrade.
Water vapour-causes 36-70% of effect.
Carbon di oxide-causes 9-26% of effect.
Methane-4-9% of effect.
Ozone 3-7% of effect
CAUSES OF GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is caused by several things.
They are mainly divided into two types.
1.Natural causes
2.Man made causes
NATURAL CAUSES
Causes that are created by nature.
Release of methane from arctic tundra, wetlands.
Earth goes through cycle of climatic changes.
These changes lasts about 40,000 yeares.
MAN MADE CAUSES
Pollution is major man made problem.
It is due to release of green house gaeses.
They are Methane, Nitrous oxide, corbon di oxide etc.
CARBON DI OXIDE:
Major source is power plants.
Emits by burning fossil fuels for electricity.
20% by gasolin in engine of vehicles.
METHANE:
20 times effectual to co2 in trapping heat.
Resources are like paddy,rice,bacteria etc.
When fields flooded anaerobic situations occurs releasing
methane.
NITROUS OXIDE:
Source is Nylon,Nitric acid production.
Cars with catalytic converters.
Burning of organic matter.
DEFORESTRATION
Some other gases causing pollution are:
VOC’s –let into air by burning fuels.
Carbon monoxide-burning source of energy.
PM-10-Source isplowing and burning fields.
Sulphur dioxide-making papers,metals.
Lead-source ispaint,laededgasoline,batteries.
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Increase in average earths tenperature.
Melting of ice caps in polar regions.
Leads to raise in sea levels.
Threat to low lying is lands, costal regions.
Rain fall patterns changes leads to floods, famines.
Ozone layer depletion.
EFFECTS ON PLANTS AND ANIMALS
Higher or lower agricultural productivity.
Global warming leads to genus extinction.
Increase in disease causing vectors.
Fast growing of disease causing bacteria.
Leads to diseases like Ebola,hants.
Golden toad,Harlequin frog of costrica already extinct.
GLOBAL WARMING STATISTICS
According to NASA hottest ywar was 2005.
100 billion$ damage caused by hurricanes hitting us coast
in 2005.
Above is according to National Climate Data Center.
15-37% of plants and animals wiped out by 2050.
FUTURE PREDICTIONS
Global mean temperature raise between 1.4and 5.8
degrees centigrade.
Sea level raises between 9and 88cm.
Northerh hemisphere cover decreases further.
US ranks 1 among nations global warming polluter.
Antarctic ice sheet should increase.
PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT
GLOBAL WARMING
Useless usage of ac,refrigerator should stopped.
Releases CFC leading to ozone layer depletion.
Hydrogen operated vehicles should be used.
More trees should be planted.
Chimneys in industries be upgraded.
Government made ‘THE CLEAN AIR ACT’ to less
pollution.
