RHS Congruence Rule

Congruency of triangles’. Two triangles are said

to be congruent to each other if the
measurements of their three sides and their three
angles are exactly the same. They may be
rotated or flipped. But when you carve them in a
piece of paper, cut them out and place one on
top of the other, they cover each other

Theorem-in two right-angled triangles , if the

length of the hypotenuse and one side of one
triangle is equal to the length of hypotenuse and
corresponding side of the other triangle , then
the two triangles are congruent.
Congruency test
with figures
In triangle PQR is
perpendicular to triangle NLM
Angle Q = Angle L (Right angle
,both 90 degree)
QR = LM (Side,both 5 cm )
NM = PR(Hypotunuse ,both 13
cm )
Therefore triangle PQR is
perpendicular to triangle NLM
(RHS Congruence Rule )
Question based
on RHS test
Q.1 Triangle PQR is an isosceles triangle
such that such that PQ=PR, prove that the
altitude PO from P on QR bisects PQ .
Solution :
In the right triangles POQ and POR
Triangle POQ=Triangle POR = 90 degree
PQ =OP [since, Triangle PQR is an
isosceles. Given PQ = PR ]
PO = OP [common
Therefore Triangle POQ is perpendicular to
triangle POR by RHS congruence condition
So , QO=RO (by corresponding parts of
congruence triangles)
Questions based on RHS test

• Solution :
• In the right triangles XOY and XOZ,
• Angle XOY = Angle XOZ =90 degree
Q2.Triangle XYZ is
• XY=XZ [Since triangle XYZ is an isosceles
an isosceles triangle
triangle . Given XY = XZ]
such that XY=XZ ,
• XO = OX [Common]
prove that the
• Therefore triangle XOY is perpendicular to
altitude XO from X
on YZ bisects YZ . triangle XOZ by RHS Congruence test
condition
• So , YO = ZO (by corresponding parts of
congruence triangles.
