CHIONG SISTERS MURDER CASE
• The Chiong murder case was a trial regarding an incident on July 16,
1997 in Cebu, the Philippines, in which sisters Marijoy and Jacqueline
Chiong were kidnapped, raped, and murdered.
• Francisco Juan "Paco" Larrañaga (b. 1977), a man of dual Filipino and 
Spanish citizenship was, along with six others, convicted of murder,
and sentenced to death by lethal injection on February 3, 2004. 
Capital punishment in the Philippines has since been abolished.
CHIONG SISTER MURDER CASE AS OF
2019
• MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Senator Panfilo Lacson on Friday,
August 30, said that some of the convicts in the 1997 Chiong murder
case are now out of prison.
• Larrañaga is serving his prison time in Spain because of a transfer
agreement as a dual citizen.

On Monday, September 2, at the Senate hearing on the GCTA law,
Lacson named Aznar, Balansag, and Caño as those who benefitted from
early release based on good conduct.
