BALLROOM
Form of social dancing of which its main purpose is for
recreation and entertainment. It is widely enjoyed, not
only in the gathering, but also on stage, in film, and on
television. It is for the young and adult. People
nowadays do ballroom dancing as a form of exercise
and personal enjoyment. Competitive dancing, more
popularly known as Dance Sport, helped revive interest
in ballroom dancing.

• The term “boogie – woogie” is quite unknown. Black African Sierra
Leone termed “bogi” to mean “to dance” and the phrase “hausabuga” to
mean “to beat drums”. 1920s – 1930s, “boogie” could mean “anything
from a crazy style of dance to a wild party to a sexually transmitted
disease.”
• In Peter Silvester’s book on boogie woogie Left Hand Like God – The
Story of Boogie Woogie, he stated that in 1929, “boogie woogie means
either dancing or enjoying the city of Detroit.
• The boogie was originally played on the piano and was later adapted to
guitar. Boogie Woogie is a style of blues piano – playing characterized by
an up – tempo rhythm, a repeated melodic pattern in the bass, and the
series of improvised variation in treble.

HISTORY OF BOOGIE
Boogie is a repetitive, swung note or shuffle rhythm, “groove” or
pattern used in blues. The characteristics rhythm and feel of the
boogie was then adapted to guitar, bass etc. Earliest recorded boogie-
woogie song was in 1916. by 1930s, Swing band such as Glenn
Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Louis Jordan all had boogie hits. By
1950s, boogie became incorporated into the emerging rockybilly and
rock and roll styles. In 1980s to 1990s, country bands released
country boogies. Today, the term boogie usually refers to dancing, to
pop, disco, or rock music.
