Evening Prayer and

Prayer Around the Cross
Holy Darkness
Holy darkness, blessed night
Heaven's answer hidden from
our sight
As we await you, O God of
silence
We embrace your holy night
Holy Darkness
I have tried you in the fires of
affliction
I have taught your soul to grieve
In the barren soil of your
loneliness
There I will plant my seed
Holy Darkness
Holy darkness, blessed night
Heaven's answer hidden from
our sight
As we await you, O God of
silence
We embrace your holy night
Holy Darkness
I have taught you the price of
compassion;
you have stood before the grave.
Though my love can seem
like a raging storm,
this is the love that saves.
Holy Darkness
Holy darkness, blessed night
Heaven's answer hidden from
our sight
As we await you, O God of
silence
We embrace your holy night
Holy Darkness
Were you there
when I raised up the mountains?
Can you guide the morning star?
Does the hawk take flight
when you give command?
Why do you doubt my pow'r?
Holy Darkness
Holy darkness, blessed night
Heaven's answer hidden from
our sight
As we await you, O God of
silence
We embrace your holy night

Psalm Prayer (Psalm 51)
Leader: Begracious to me, O God,
according to Your loving kindness;
According to the greatness of Your
compassion blot out my
transgressions.
All: Wash me thoroughly from my
iniquity And cleanse me from my
sin.
Leader: ForI know my
transgressions, And my sin is ever
before me.
All:Against You, You only, I have
sinned. And done what is evil in
Your sight,
So that You are justified when You
speak,
And blameless when You judge.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Matthew
When Jesus saw the crowds, he went
up the mountain; and after he sat
down, his disciples came to him. Then
he began to speak, and taught them,
saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they
will be comforted. Blessed are the
meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and
thirst for righteousness, for they will
be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for
they will receive mercy. Blessed are
the pure in heart, for they will see
God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for
they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted
for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are
you when people revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of
evil against you falsely on my
account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is
great in
heaven, for in the same way they
persecuted the prophets
who were before you.”
THE WORD OF THE LORD.
We observe a few
minutes of silent prayer
and reflection.
Jesu Le Christ
Jesus, Your light is shining
within us. Let neither my
doubts nor my darkness speak
to me.
Jesus, Your light is shining
within us. Let my heart always
welcome Your love.

Lord have mercy
Our Father
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed
be Thy name, Thy kingdomcome Thy will
be done, on earth as it is in heaven,
Give us this day our daily bread, And
forgive us our tresspases, as we forgive
those who tresspass, against us, and lead
us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil
Concluding Prayer
Leader: Jesus our joy, you want us to
have hearts that are simple, a kind
of springtime of the heart. And then
the complications of existence do
not paralyze us so much. You tell
us: don’t worry; even if you have
very little faith, I, Christ, am with
you always.
Amen.
Prayer Around
the Cross
nada te turbe
Nada te turbe, nada te espante,
quien a Dios tiene,
nada le falta.
Nada te turbe, nada te espante,
solo Dios basta.
Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you
whoever has God lacks nothing
for God alone is enough.
