WHAT IS SELF IMAGE?

 SELF IMAGE refers to how you see yourself


 This may be how you see yourself physically or your
opinion of who and what you are.
 Having a positive SELF IMAGE is important because it
affects your self esteem and confidence.
SELF IMAGE AND SELF ESTEEM

SELF IMAGE includes: Self ESTEEM is how you feel about


yourself and is closely connected
• what you think you look like
with how
• what kind of person you think
you view
you are
yourself
• what you believe others think of
you
• how you see yourself and how
you believe others see you
WHAT IS BODY IMAGE?

 BODY IMAGE refers to the mental picture you have of your


body (feelings, thoughts & judgment about your body)
 It pertains to a person’s PERCEPTION instead of the actual
body composition.

 A NEGATIVE (DISTORTED) body image refers to an


unrealistic view of how someone sees their body.
 It is often associated or can lead to eating disorders

 Know the TRUTH: it’s a LIE! The images in the media where
we compare ourselves to are enhanced & retouched (aka
Photoshopped)

us feel bad about our bodies / appearance
