SUGGESTING
Suggest means to give a suggestion
that is to introduce or propose an
idea or a plan for someone’s
consideration.
Suggestions are abstract and can be
in form of solutions, advice, plan,
and idea. It can be accepted or
refused.

Social function: to facilitate


interpersonal communication
between different people.

For Example:
- Let’s finish our homework first
- How about memorize vocabulary
before study english.
Dialogue :
John : “What shall we do this weekend ?”
Anna : “I don’t know. The forecast says it will be bright and
dry on Saturday”
John : “But it may rain on Sunday. We could go for a picnic to
the lake and if the weather gets worse, we might go back to the
town to spend the evening at home watching TV”
Anna : “Going to the lake sounds great ! I’m up for it. But I’m
not sure for watching Tv on Sunday evening. It is boring ! I’d
rather go shopping or watching a film at the Cinema”
John : “Sounds good to me ! How about inviting Jack and
Marry ? They could join us !
Anna : “Yes, Let’s do that !”
ASK FOR A SUGGESTION

Modal : Shall

MAKE a SUGGESTION

Could and Might How about and what about


Examples:
How about = something/someone
“They could join us later”
What about = doing something
“we might go to lake together”
Example:
How about the film ?

A : We are leaving now !
B : But, what about me ? How about (more sure)
I don’t want to stay here alone What about (less sure)

Let us = Let’s
“Let’s visit London next year”
“Let’s invite her to the party”
EXPRESSING OF SUGGESTIONS
 I don’t think..... (saya tidak berfikir)
 Why don’t we..... (kenapa tidak kita)
 What do you feel about....(apa yang kamu fikir tentang)

 I suggest that... (saya menyarankan )


 Let’s …. (Ayo kita….)
 We could …. (Kita bisa/dapat….)
 What about…. (Bagaimana dengan)
 How about….. (Bagaimana tentang)
 You might… (Kamu mungkin…)
