COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES

 When a shop assistant talk about two ore


more products to a customer, he/she can
compare them. The customer needs to know
if these products are the same or if they are
different.

 So, we can use Comparative Adjectives to


describe the differences.
COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES

 Three types of Comparative Adjectives:

 Superiority

 Equality

 Inferiority

Comparative Adjective + THAN


COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES

One syllable adjectives: Add -er


Ex: Small / Smaller.

 One syllable adjectives ending in “e”: Add –r


Ex: Nice / Nicer.

 One syllable adjectives ending in consonant-vowel-


consonant: Doble consonant + Add -er
Ex: Hot / Hotter.

 One or two syllable adjectives ending in –ly, -y: Replace


“-y” with -ier or ending in –w: Add –er
Ex: Early / Earlier, Busy / Busier, Shallow / Shallower.
COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES
Two or more syllable adjevtives: More + adjective
Ex: Expensive / More expensive,
Serious / More serious,
Amazing / More amazing.

 Irregular forms: Do not follow the rules

SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVE

 We use superlatives to compare one thing against


the rest of the group / type. When we describe the
benefits of a product, we can use superlatives
adjectives to compare our product against
competitor product.

 So, when we use the superlative we are saying that


something has more quality or quantity of something
that all the others you are comparing it/them with.

THE + Superlative Adjective (+ OF/IN)

One syllable adjectives: Add -est


Ex: Small / The smallest.

 One syllable adjectives ending in “e”: Add –st


Ex: Nice / The nicest.
