Ecological Municipality of Santa Barbara is a premier suburban municipality of
Iloilo which is strategically located at the centermost of the province.

ECOLOGICAL
PROFILE

It lies within 122⁰ 29’ 12” and 122⁰ 36’ 35” East Longitude and within
10⁰ 35’ 15” and 10⁰ 35’ 10” North Latitude, with an elevation of 32.083
ft. above sea level. It is bounded on the North by the Municipality of
New Lucena, on the Northeast by the Municipality of Zarraga, on the
South by the Municipality of Pavia, on the Southeast the Municipality of
Leganes, on the Southwest by the Municipality of San Miguel and on
the Northwest by the Municipality of Cabatuan.
ECOLOGICAL
PROFILE

It is 15.7 kilometers north or a twenty-minute drive from the City of

Iloilo, through well-maintained asphalt/ concrete national highway
and accessible by any land transportation. Road network consist
of the national highway, provincial, municipal and barangay road
cutting and criss-crossing its environs.
RISK PROFILE
 The municipality is traversed by two (2) major river basins,
the Tigum and Aganan Rivers of which its water volumes
pose as a threat on the barangays situated along its banks
and low-lying areas susceptible to inundation due to
overflow or flashfloods.

Although the 2008 Typhoon Frank Incident may be

categorized as an unusual case yet it has shown the
degree damage and other effects that flooding of a
magnitude can cause.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) Regional

Office geohazard survey indicate that several areas of the
town is susceptible to flooding and erosion. Recently,
characterized with even rainy summers, the Iloilo Flood
Control Project has somehow prevented the occurrence
in the flood-prone barangays of the municipality.
