Introduction
Various places in the Philippines including Cavite have prohibited the use of
plastic bags and paper products as packaging due to their impact in the
environment. Therefore, the researchers have begun to investigate new
material that may be an alternative to plastics and paper. According to a
research (Bezirhan & Bilgen, 2019), Potato Peel Bioplastic (PPB)
biodegradability tests results show that Potato Peel can be used in
biodegradable bioplastic production. In Italy, potato peel is used as packaging
for fries as it is 100% potato peel, it is fully biodegradable, returning to the
biological cycle by becoming fertilizer for plants or animal food. It is also used
as packaging to reduce waste coming from fries production. Therefore, Potato
Peel can be used as an alternative packaging of street vendors in Cavite.
Name of the Company

The researchers have come up with the name “Potato Cart” as Potatoes (Fries) can be
placed in potato peel as packaging wherein it acts as a cart for fries.

Location of the Company

The location of the Company

will be in General Trias, Cavite.

Product Description

The product is a conical shape packaging made from 100% potato peel.
Objectives of the Study
The general objective of the study was to propose a product that will promote waste
management and environmental sustainability. Specifically, this study aims to:
1. Investigate the environmental impacts of plastic and paper packaging in the
Philippines
2. Conduct a survey with the street vendors on their concerns over the environment
and demand for products that have claimed to be environmentally friendly.
3. Propose an alternative eco-friendly packaging made from Potato Peel that will fill
the need of street vendors for a product that will promote waste management
and environmental sustainability.
4. Be able to market the product to the street vendors in Cavite.
Project Summary
In the first part of the project, the researchers will gather data about the potential
market and suppliers within Cavite. The potential suppliers are the stores that
produce and/or sell fries (Café, Milktea shops etc.) or the French fries suppliers in
Cavite and the potential market are the street vendors.

In the second part, the researchers will be collecting the materials from the suppliers
that will be used for the product. After collecting the materials from the suppliers,
the researchers will begin creating the finished product or the Potato Peel Packaging.
Then, the finished product will be market to the street vendors or the potential
market as a replacement for the traditional packaging they use. The finished
product will be cheaper and eco-friendly compare to the traditional packaging.
