Course Title: Complementary and Alternative Medicine

Course Description
Rationale: This course is designed to enable the students to understand their
role in the practice of complementary and alternative medicine/integrative
medicine domains that are commonly used by Filipinos in medical
healthcare; those which are cost-effective, recognized by the government, a
local and global trend, and a basis for scientific research in improving the
quality of life of the individuals and the community as a whole.

Focus: This course covers complementary and integrative approaches to


health, regulations governing them; emphasizing the role of the pharmacist
in their implementation.

HOME-BASED ALTERNATIVE
LEARNING MODALITIES (HBALM)
“In alternative learning, students are to be supervised,
monitored, assessed, and evaluated by a certified staff, who
is tasked to develop student learning plans. Students will
have weekly contact time with the certified staff and
evaluations of student progress will be observed”

CONDUCT OF CLASSES
SYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

• Kind of learning that happens on real time;

• You, your classmates and your instructor interact in a specific virtual


place, through a specific online medium, at a specific time; video
conferencing, teleconferencing, live chatting, and live-streaming
lectures.
ASYNCHRONOUS LEARNING

Students’ learning happen at their own pace and schedule; ability to


access and satisfy requirements within a flexible time frame; self-
guided lesson modules, streaming video content, virtual libraries,
posted lecture notes, and exchanges across discussion boards or social
media platforms.
CONDUCT OF CLASSES
• There will be NO FACE to FACE classes for the First semester.
• Blackboard will be the prescribed LMS for the conduct of classes
Instruction for both lecture and laboratory classes will conducted
using online modules.
• The number of hours allotted per course depends on the number of
units (e.g. 2 units =2 hours lecture; 1 unit= 3 hours laboratory)
• Attendance in classes will be strictly monitored. The maximum
number of absences will still be observed based on the guidelines as
for face-to-face classes.
CONDUCT OF CLASSES
• An absence is excused if it is due to the following reasons:
• sickness (with medical certificate)
• official appointments (with proof)
• Classes can be a mix of synchronous and asynchronous activities.
• In-between breaks can be observed during the class schedule.
• Holidays and official suspensions of classes will still be observed.
CONDUCT OF EXAMINATIONS AND
OTHER ASSESSMENTS
• Assessments (short and long quizzes)will be given every end of the
topic/module using the prescribed LMS platform or other platforms
designated by the instructor.
• Examinations will be conducted in a synchronous and supervised
manner.
• Examinations will begin promptly, and end as scheduled. It will be
supervised by an instructor assigned for that course.
DEADLINES AND SUBMISSION OF
REQUIREMENTS
• Deadline for the submission of requirements will be set by the
instructor and will be properly communicated to the students.
• In cases that there will be some clarifications and questions, the
students shall inform the instructor through the LMS and not
through other social media means.
• Submission of requirements will also be through the prescribed
LMS.
MENTORING AND CONSULTATION
• Students can schedule mentoring and consultation with their
instructors on the declared consultation hours by the instructor.
• It is highly encouraged that students consult with their instructors to
keep track of their academic performance and for academic related
matters.
• In cases that the student doesn’t want to be identified, an anonymous
consultation can be done.
• The guidance and counselling services of the College will also be
available through Ma’am Sheila Ricalde.
GIVING OF GRADES
Prelim grade, Midterm grade, Final grade
• The final grade will be the basis for passing or failing the course.
• For a student to pass a course, the final grade should be at least 75.
• A grade of INC (Incomplete) shall be given to a student who has not
completed the requirements for the course, and provided that the
remaining requirements are of passing quality.
• The students with a grade of INC for a course shall be given 1 year
for completion but will not be permitted to take the next course to
which it is a prerequisite.

• KWLS Chart, Graphic Organizers, Puzzles,
Chunking the Data, Collaborative Album, Reflection Journal
• Answers to Questions/Tabulations 30%
FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT 25%
• Assessment given at the end of each module
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT 25%
• Periodical examinations
