◦ Assistive technology is any device used to help a
person cope with his/her challenges and difficulties.
◦ There are many different kind of assistive
technology from high tech ones such as text to
speech to low tech ones such as pencil grips and
communication boards.

◦Low Tech Assistive Technology are tools that do not need
batteries or electricity to work.
◦Examples of these are
◦Communication/Language: picture symbols,
communication boards, PECS, visual schedule
◦Cognitive/Academic: picture symbols, graphic organizers
◦Others: velcro sneakers, pencil grip

battery operated and require a little bit of specialization.

◦ Cognitive/Academic: audio books, screen magnifiers,
calculator, electronic speller or dictionary

◦ Cognitive/Academic: ipads, computers, smart boards
