Introduction
With unstoppable progress of science a new platform comes to
existence, Social media is growing rapidly and becoming an
inevitable part of everyday life, Teens and college students, ages 12
to 28 years, have quickly embraced online technologies that enable
social, communicative and creative uses. They are more likely than
other age categories to send and receive email messages, play online
games, create blogs, download music, search for school information
online or simply spending time online. They are used that
information is delivered in this way. Traditional classroom education
simply does not fulfill anymore the expectation of students. Use of
media and modern means of interaction has literally rewired the
way that our students think and process information.
What is Social Media?
• A set of websites & applications that enable users
for making as well as sharing anything for
participating in social networking is called Social
Media. It is not just only limited to posting vacation
snaps online. It is an interactive computer-mediated
technology for sharing of various ideas, information,
career interests, and other forms of expression
through apparent communities & worldwide
network.
Why do Students use Social Media?

• It has become an invaluable tool not only for

communication & marketing but also in the
field of education as well. Generally, students
use social media to share & get instant quick
information, reviews & solutions to their
problems.
Educational Benefits of Social Media

• Over many years social media has gained

superior credibility as a trusted source of
information & a platform where organizations
can interact with their global audiences. Using
social media, teachers can improve
technological ability & students’ involvement
in studies.
Social Credibility
• Many schools, colleges & universities have
begun the facility of interconnecting with a
large no. of students through the means of
social media networks, for example,
Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Studies concerning the most used application
in the world
• Nemetz, Aiken, Cooney, & PascA few studies showed
that students preferred Facebook over Twitter as a
learning tool (Rinaldo et al., 2011; Welch & Bonnan-
White, 2012). Although in general students were not
inclined to change tools, they were more positive about
Facebook for learning about grammar and writing
(Suthiwartnarueput & Wasanasomsithi, 2012). Other
studies, in turn, showed that students were reluctant to
use any social media tool in class, which directly
affected their learning behaviour when no alternative
was provided (al, 2012).
 Sharing Information & Knowledge
• Social media provides a platform where one
can share their knowledge and gain
credibility in their chosen field(s) or
specialization(s). They can also acquire
information and insights from others within
an online community.
Conclusion
• social networking has been proved to have
both positive and negative effects on our
youths. ... The education curriculum also
should be revised so that it can include social
media studies in its disciplines so as to alert
students that they need to be careful in
their social media usage.
