Equality in dignity and rights


• Art. 3, ICCPR, “The State Parties to the present Covenant undertake to
ensure the equal right of men and women to the enjoyment of all civil
and political rights set forth in the present Covenant.”
• Equal opportunity to enjoy human rights
Right to life, liberty and security
• “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person. No one
shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention. No one shall be
deprived of his liberty except on such grounds and in accordance with
such procedure as are established by law.”
Right to equal protection
• Art. 7, UDHR, provides equal protection of the law without any
discrimination.
Right to privacy
• Art. 12, UDHR, “No one shall subjected to arbitrary interference with
his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his
honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of
the law against such interference or attacks.”
Freedom of movement
• Art. 13, UDHR, “Right to freedom of movement and residence within
the borders of each State. Everyone has the right to leave any country,
including his own, and to return to his country.”
Right to seek asylum
• Art. 14, UDHR, “Everyone has the right to seek and enjoy in other
countries asylum from persecution.”
• Non-refoulement: the state having the obligation to grant the asylum
cannot return the asylum-seeker to his State of origin where he is in
peril of execution, rejection, torture, or cruel treatment.
Freedom of expression
Art. 19, UDHR and ICCPR guarantees the freedom of opinion and
expression.
Right to work
• Art. 23, UDHR, “Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of
employment, to just and favorable conditions of work and to
protection against unemployment.”
