Title: Research in Bamboo
Construction.
Place of research :Telangana state.
Names of students :Shreya Gaikwad , Sejal Lodha , Cheekoti Vivek.
Introduction:
1)India is the second largest producer of bamboo after
China. And in many states like Assam, Nagaland ,Manipur,
Bihar etc. bamboo is traditionally used in many ways like
wattle and daub, huts in villages and small rural
constructions.
Even though it is widely available and traditionally used,
we are still unable to find it in modern context.

2)Bamboo is very good in its in strength .It is better than

steel in its tensile strength, and better than concrete in its
compressional strength. Though it is an ideal material for
construction, we are still not able to use it.

3)It is a sustainable material.

4) Even though bamboo has these many qualities , what

are those limitations which are stopping us from using it?

So, as an architectural student being in Telangana state

these made us curious to know the status of bamboo
construction in state . Hence we came up with the decision
of doing research in Telangana state.
Aim: To make a report on Bamboo Construction in Telangana .

Objectives:
• To understand the use of bamboo as a construction material .

• To understand the sustainable aspect of bamboo.

• To study the current situation and status of bamboo as a construction

material in Telangana state.

• To understand the evolution of bamboo as a construction material.

• To study the limitations of bamboo.

• To gather the experience of people living in bamboo houses.

• Understanding the economical aspect of bamboo.

• Over all combining above elements we are going to describe the story of
bamboo construction in Telangana state.
Scope of Research:

• There is a very little research work done on this topic. Hence we

would like to find the possibilities and limitations of this material
so that we make make advantage of it by trying to remove those
limitations and using the possibilities. Hence this will bring light
and consciousness to people about bamboo and will be very useful
for all succeeding generations as it becomes a base for the people
who want to start bamboo practice in Telangana state.

Research Methodology:

Literature review through articles, books , papers, internet in order to

know the current situation of bamboo in Telangana and India.

1).Data collection:
• Case study: Through book case study and on-site visit.
• Interview:
1. Meeting practicing architects and engineers .
2. Meeting the people who are good at checking the quality of
bamboo.
3. Interaction with common people.
2) .Market survery of bamboo derivates

3). On-site visit to the understand the construction techniques and

methods.

4). Visting bamboo plantation, production and treatment centers.

Method of documentation:
A report will be produced along with interviews of people, detail drawings
of houses , sketches, photographs and videos.

Sources
There is company / firm called bamboo India in Hyderabad currently till
date they have constructed 150 houses in bamboo which can be
documented.

Under the guidance:Ar.VaibhaviAgarwal who was helping us with this

proposal.
Thank you.

Budget:

Train travel :
•Per person it takes 330/- a train ticket from Pune to Telangana..

The train cost is going to be around 2000/- for up and down.

•The research is going to be done through out the year.

• Most of the money is going to be spent on visiting experts, travelling to remote

areas, data collection and making the final report.

• Stay facility – It takes around 1000/-per day.

•As it is our home town we can complete the whole research project in 15000/-
