Preparing Tomorrow Workforce for

the Fourth Industrial Revolution

Industrial Revolution

1784 1923 1969 2014

4th Revolution:
1. In January 2011, Industry 4.0 was initiated as a “Future Project” by the German
federal government
2. With the introduction of IPv6 in 2012, virtually unlimited addressing space
become available
3. Government, private companies and industry association have been focusing on
and making investments since 2010s
What is Industry 4.0

Base Technology Solutions

The 4th Industrial Revolution will take what was started in The 3th Industrial with the adoption
of computers and automation :
1. Enhance with smart and autonomous systems
2. Fueled by data and machine learning
What is The Changing

The 4th Industrial Revolution :

• From “era of rigid, efficiency-focused and manual manufacturing” to “more
dynamic, agile, and automated manufacturing”
• Focus from mass production to mass customization (enabled by flexible
production and shorter lead times)
• From large-scale factories specialized to smart factories with high-technological
equipment that can produce multiple products at competitive cost
The Working Condition (An Example)

The 4th Industrial Revolution :

• Take part in greater task variety and no longer with only one
particular type of job
• Significant reduction in monotonous and ergonomically
challenging jobs
• Share the space with intelligent robots (support work
significantly but the decisions made by skilled employees)
• Central Team work (horizontal and vertical levels)
• Information and big data as a key elements in process
(employee’s day-to-day jobs)
• Artificial intelligence : collaboration between humans -
machines and the interaction by voice and gesture
• Workers use devices like smartphones and tablets for
communication and machine operation
• Planning, improvement and optimization activities in
operation process
• Employees to do less of manual work but more tasks of
control and supervision of the processes
What is the Benefit

The 4th Industrial Revolution :

With the rapid rate of obsolescence of technologies
and offerings, companies with Industry 4.0 will enjoy an
advantage and be ahead of their competitors in the
global manufacturing race
What is The Impact for Workforce

The Impact of 4th Industrial Revolution :

1. Job loss due to increasing use of automation and robots (job lost)
Perform tasks multiple times with high levels of accuracy and within shorter time
duration than humans
2. No job loss but no increasing in employment (jobs relocated)
Increase in labor productivity and in the quality of the products manufactured
3. New job for higher levels of skills (job “re-made”)
What is The Impact (SWOT)

Revolusi Industri 4.0 akan mengarah pada

peningkatan produktivitas yang besar serta
revolusi ekonomi - ekonomi padat karya semakin
berkurang, pekerjaan tingkat menengah,
keterampilan menengah, dan upah menengah
yang akan menjadi pekerjaan yang paling
dominan.

What is the Challenge
2. Mindset and Culture

1. Align stakeholders’ objectives and approaches

To achieve scale, business should work with the broader ecosystem to align goals and outcomes for impact
2. Engage in public policy
Strategically engage in public policy through, dialogue, advocacy, collaboration, and influence
3. Develop promising talent strategies (Attract, Recruit , Onboard, Develop and Train)
Analyze current talent strategies - focused on youth or under - to promote inclusivity and innovation, and drive
economic return through differentiation
4. Invest strategically in workforce training approaches
Evaluate, invest, and promote workforce training programs that align with your corporate social responsibility
goals, talent practices, skill needs, and corporate culture
How to Preparing Workforce
How to Preparing Workforce

The educational system must train students, especially those studying

computing and software engineering, in ethical principles.

The educational system must also be reengineered to educate students and

workers to become more qualified in Industry 4.0, where the release of
platforms/systems is much faster than we have seen to date and the skill sets
required are constantly changing.

Graduates are expected to be work-ready and know the latest technology

trends and tools. The ability to think critically and the embracing of lifelong
learning are extremely important, as those who have these characteristics can
adapt to the challenges of Industry 4.0 and be less subject to replacement by
machines and intelligent agents

Ethical in Industry 4.0

• Anonymity : people can use fake identities to remain anonymous

• Bias and Discrimination : Autonomous systems make decisions based
on the data they can access, which raises concerns regarding bias and
discrimination
• Ownership/Property : IoT collects a lot of data about individuals,
identifying data ownership and property
• Surveillance : people being monitored without their consent or even,
in some cases, without being aware of being monitored
• Misuse and Malicious Use : The information / data is maliciously used
or disclosed by some third party
• Cybersecurity : Cybersecurity affects system reliability and user trust
in these systems.
• Accessibility : Systems, products, and services are suitable for all
people including the elderly, the handicapped and the disabled.
• Transparency : Users can better understand the underlying processes
the system used to arrive at an outcome and use that knowledge to
make correct decisions
